Thread Starter | Advice for Recording and Electric Drum Kit
Hey so this band wants me to record a few songs for them but they only have an electric drum kit and they have all their unqie sounds and stuff on there so the suggestion of using an acoustic kit and just laying samples under is kind of out of the question. I'm awaiting to make and model of his kit so i can look into the possible options i have recording that kit. The way I have come up with but am somewhat unsure how to do is I want to be able to recording them MIDI with either pro tools (I know) or garage band and on playback i want it to play the sounds in the drum module. Is this possible if the drum module has MIDI in and out? i want to be able to quantize and all that stuff but using the sounds in the drum module and then bounce that to an audio track. can anyone tell me how to go about doing this or if there is a better way?? Thanks!!!!

Record the midi in an instrument track, just like playing a midi keyboard. 'Unique sounds'? If they are literally electronic sounds the results could be great. But if they are acoustic emulations, generated by an e-kit brain, the results are going to be disappointing IMO. I've never heard one that sounded a patch on the software competition; Platinum, Slate, BFD, Toontrack etc......

Yea i agree that the drums samples in the brain are going to be disappointing and i explained that to the client but theis is how they insist on doing it and i'tll be a learning experience for me as well. anyways i hope it works out.

the drum kit is YAMAHA DTXPRESS 3. Are you guys talking about EZ Drummer when you say Toontracks?
