| naaah.. that's the nord sound you've noticed. their oscillators always seem to sound like that. I don't think they could move from that sound now, without alienating all their fans who like that sound. (I'm not one of them - I do like their filters, but!) I think that the nord wave can have samples as waveforms? maybe you could run a looped sample of a nice oscillator in place of their default oscs and it would sound a lot better? |

| having waves as OSC makes a big difference! more true with virtual synths. check out vember audios' surge synth. al though for some reason in the virus TI when you choose waves it sounds thinner and not as harmonically rich as surge or blue or other rob papen synth that use waves. (not the spectral waves from albino though) the nord modular is one of my favorites. used to use the 1st generation and it rocked. |

| Seriously guys the Wave is amazing. Whether you like the Nord sound or not is a matter of personal preference, but if you liked the leads youll love the wave even more. Theres so much scope in there with FM,Wavetables,VA,plus sample upload that it could be the best all in one portable synthesis solution around. The acoustic instrument samples on board are some of the best ive heard, particularly the string sections and the fx section lifted from the stage is a very useful addition. Ive been lucky enough to spend the last couple of week with the Wave and i dont want to send it back. Anyway...Read my review in the next issue of Future Music. ![]() |

Thread Starter | A Nord thin????...Oh come on m8!!! maybe not ur cuppa tea,but not thin 4 sure!!! The thing I like about the Nords is that at least they have their "own" sound. I don't see them as VA's tryin to be analogs but as digital synths that inmho are very useful, and I think they sit nicely in the mix!!They have such a "signature" sound. The only thing that makes me sceptical about the Nord Wave is the plain knobs and the price!(way higher than Nord 3 and with crappier looking knobs) Cheers |

| I've always been quite fond of that signature Clavia sound. Very unique character in a flooded virtual analog market. I look forward to perhaps adding a Nord Wave to my mini Clavia collection sometime in the near future! Hmmm, could make a nice Christmas gift... ![]() |

| Moderator | how does it compare to the waldorf micro wave xt? I know the nord sound. Not my thing but a production partner uses the modular.

A bright orange xt is harder on the eyes than a nord is, though. but you do get used to the obnoxious orange eventually.... ![]() | |

| The only nord product that I would be excited about woudl be a micro version of the G2 modular, and it seems like they're never going to come out with that. ( I do know about the engine, I want something half that size, with a couple of knobs on it. If it also had half the I/O and polyphony, and cost the same, that would be fine.) |

| nord wave looks really interesting... i'm glad they didn't try to do a TI competitor. using any discrete sample as an oscillator base looks like it will be heaps fun. i really want a waldorf ![]() |
