Roland MV-8000 For Techno/House...Anyone?

Hello. I'm very curious to see if anyone is using the Roland MV series, they seem to be very powerful, but I only see ads and promos where its focused in Hip hop and R&B.
I have had several machines I liked and disliked such as the Roland MC-909...nice machine, but wasnt crazy about the sounds and editing was a little awkward...besides the sampler wasnt very intuitive.
Korg mx-1....fun fun fun, but needed a sampler also.
Machinedrum, used it for 2 weeks BEFORE IT GOT Stolentutt , so cant really say much about it.
Roland RS-7000...this is a really powerful sequencer...the sounds are outdated, the sampler hard to grasp for me....but oh boy what a great sequencer this is!!.
So since I come from a computer DAW world I needed the closest machine that can integrate well with a computer ...the Roland MV seems to be just the ticket...lets see whats up when i get it next week.
Anyone ?
PS" bought a used MV-8000 from ebay already....just waiting til it gets here next week

I really wanted a machine to combine with my daw for techno/house, just recently got a roland mc-808, I'm really amazed with it, quality wise, and is also very user friendly. I couldn't be happier. MV-8000 is a pretty powerful machine i'm sure you will get good usage out of it but the only thing is it doesn't have motorized faders and streamlined step sequencer like the 808

Im going to be very honest here and say as a sound module yes because the engine is the same as the S Range samplers and they sound totally cool (you must assign teh filters to sounds to get the best from it). Its the sequencer I had problems with. I had one and sent it back within a week. You may get on with it fine but I found it very hard work because I think the point of these boxes is to allow you to create without having to edit everything and im sorry to say in alomst every case I had to end up editing sequences which totally destroyed the workflow. Its not that the timing is incorrect its just got a weird feel and you have to play very accurate. It totally aimed at the hip hop guys and for recording 90bpm stuff its easier to get stuff to play back as you want, but for 4/4 techno 130-145 bpm I wasnt geling with it at all. Someone I know programs in step time which of course will be spot on timing but again I feel that defeats the purpose completely.

I do hope you gel with it better than i did. If you can its a great machine. Get to know it, use it every day non stop and it will serve you very very well for years. Its a lovely built machine no doubt about that.

Thanks guys for the comments...Actually Im not going to be using the Roland mv as sequencer, I gave up on that since every machine I used was not as fast as using Logic Pro...thats what Im used to for 6 years now.
so the idea was to use the Roland MV slaved to Logic for ading sounds, Im really into the autochop feature, i know you can use things like phatmatik to do that, but for some reason I really wanted a machine that allowes me to drag and drop files to it and jam with chopped vocals or get creative with old vinyls.
I was also considering geting a macbook with an akai mpd-24 with Live for that matter, but having an ALL in one machine I think it would keep me more focused. Also getting to know a machine from the inside out and knowing its limitations makes you more creative??
We'll see, Im very excited.... I like the idea of using the Roland MV for other than Hip hop

Sounds like a big waste of money if your using logic as the sequencer.

If you are just looking to chop/import samples you might want to look at an MPC1000 and the JJos.

FWIW

Had one for 3 years, got over it pretty fast when I saw what a Daw could do, and how much faster it could do it...

Its alot of fun tho, and the peanuts you payed for it (surely) its definitely worth checking out.

Not really, I also use logic as my main sequencer but i find an MPC or MV much more intuitive to make beats !

You already had an Elektron device and that`s what I`d recommend:
Monomachine SFX60 MKII Elektron Music Machines

Check the demos:

I sold the MV 8800 a few months ago, I realized I could do much more , easier and faster with esx24.
The Mv would be ok for someone who isnt really into DAW as much as I am. I ended up selling the Mv, got an MPD 32 and giving the esx 24 a lot of use.
I have also bought an Elektron Machinedrum and liking it very much ...for now

I had the monomachine & the machinedrum..

Sold them after less than 6 month of use

Too cold for me ...

Great sequencer with some good ideas but i just didn t like the sound, especially the machinedrum one ( good for minimal techno but nothing more imo )

Replaced them with the MPC 5000 & i m very happy !
Fast, easy, it helps me to quickly put my ideas on music..
It s also a wonderfull sequencer when you have plenty of hardware synth to control.

That a matter of taste, really, i m used to DAW since i began to make music but i really like not having to power on the computer each time i want to make music.
I just find the hardware much more cool to use than a software plugin, even with the best controler you can dream of.
But like i said, we r all differents ....

That's what I did. I thought about the MV for a while and had a RS7000 for a long while, but in the end, I felt to constricted in the box of hardware. I think sequencing can't be beat with Logic, which is what I use. For beats in Logic, I use a Korg Pad Kontrol to jam on, which I love. The only machine I think that is worth it are machines like the Electribes, Elektron and Jomox drum machines. The TR style of sequencing beats is truely the best. The whole reason of having a hardware sequencer is so you don't have to stop and go into menus to change parameters. It needs to be straight forward and intuitive but offer good expression and character.

for that matter Korg electribes take the prize for being the most easy, intuitive non stop jamming boxes. I am still learning to use the Machinedrum like I used the korgs in sync with Logic, but the machinedrum isnt as easy as the electribes for jamming with Logic.
I will keep forcing myself to use the MD for more than sound module
