Multi input (output)- multi effect unit

Hi everyone,

Are there any hardware multy effect units with multiple ins (and outs) that you can run more than one independent effect chain from? For example have insrument one going through delay and reverb; insrument 2 through just delay...

Thanks,
Peter

Eventide makes several devices that fit this description (Orville, H8000, etc.)

The TC M2000 and M3000 do this (not sure about the 4000). The Eventide Eclipse does this. You can set them up in "parallel mode" where input one goes to one effect and input two goes to a different effect, and the stereo output of each effect is summed to the single stereo outputs.

If you don't care about stereo, even something as lowly as an MPX-1 can do this for mono sources.

Without knowing your budget, it's hard to recommend a box, but if you can go 1500-1800 you can grab a Kurzweil KSP8 which will do 8 in 8 out - configurable however you like (8 mono in/out, 4 stereo in/out, 2 stereo & 4 mono, 5.1 surround, etc...). It sounds great, has IO option boards (AES/EBU, Analog, ADAT) has a good amount of power (fx buses can be a single fx or chained fx), is supremely flexible with its internal routing, it easy to program, and has an optional remote control. I picked up a like new unit with remote and ADAT IO board for 2K on ebay 6 months ago - they pop up fairly regularly. Just be aware the maximum sample rate for the digital IO is 48K - not a big deal for most people.

I second the KSP-8. Nice variety of good sounding algorithms, flexible I/O configuration, reasonably priced these days second hand.

We did ambient sets that were 2 x Nord Modulars going into 2 x KSP-8s... each of the Nord Modulars was running four self-sequenced patches, each of those patches was going into a separate KSP-8 input and being processed on its own. So basically eight different sequeunced parts being treated with eight different effects chains.

Another nice thing about the KSP-8 is you have a separate EQ section for each input. This was great for the above setup as we could set up mixes of all the parts beforehand, clearing out a lot of overlap and mud with hi-pass and lo-pass EQ.

A final nice thing about the KSP-8 is the converters are pretty good, so pop in an ADAT board and you can use it as a 4 channel AD/DA converter.

The ensoniq DP/4 is great. I gave one and you can use it as two idependant stereo FX or 4 mono. Very easy to edit.

or even the lexicon mx200, plus you get plugin support for the parameters (what little there are!)

Perhaps a bit unconventional, but check out the Clavia G2 Engine. It's a single rackspace version of the G2 virtual modular synth but it includes massive amounts of patchable multiFX capabilities, and it has four ins & four outs. The user interface is waaaay better than any other FX device I have ever used and the patching flexibility allows you to do FX routings that are not possible on any other FX device. it's also a real bargain.
