Coding Files to Include Loop Points.

Hi there,

Im looking to make my 1st dive into the sampling (proper) world and I need a few pointers...

1- How do I bury loop point data within a file (would this be done as an AIF file? within a WAV?) so that when I load a- for example, 2/4 second- synth sample into a sampler (Kontakt, mach5 etc) it will read the loop point...

would i be best cutting the end of the sample where i want the loop end point to be so that the host sampler just auto loops when the audio runs out? (hope that bit makes sense!)

2- How would I encode a bunch of samples to a format that is readable by most- Soundfont/Kontakt etc. i.e. a format that keeps all samples in one file!

Thanks for your time guys-

jim.

I use Peak- but any 2 track sample editor should be able to do it (Sound Forge, Wavelab etc)
You simply use 'make loop' which is usually under 'functions menu' or similar.

No, use an editor to specify the loop point.

Well, most sample formats use an instrument file and keep the wave data separate, except for gigasampler and soundfonts which are encapsulated within one file.
There is no universal format per se but many applications will read different formats.

I use Kontakt and EXS formats for the most part.

i bought a sample pack that had all of this encoded in it, and i don't know how to remove it all. it's ****ing up one of my samplers and pissing me off......

thanks octatonic,

so by that token, i should be able to hit export from my chosen sampler (say, Kontakt or gigasampler) and export as a soundfont with the loop data inbuilt? and if i used, say, kontakt, would the loop data be exported with what extention? i assume the wave data file would appear in the same patch but as a different part to the instrument file.

excellent.
