shoudl i send PT midi tracks through External clock?

i am trying to decide if i should go with an Apogee mini me mini dac combo or a Rosetta 200. I am using Protools.
>
My question is:

should i send my soft synth midi tracks in PT out through the apogee
clock before i record them to audio ?

if so, it seems like I would need the rosetta. don't
>see how i could do it with minime and mini dac. if i send midi spdif
>out to mini dac there is no digital out to get me back into minime and
>back into protools digitally unless i use the mini dac analog outs
>which would mean and extra conversion.
>
>am i thinking about this right?

thanks!

Why would you want to do that? You won't be gaining anything by sending the soft synths out IMHO

Why not keep them in PT as instrument tracks and then buss to an audio track to commit them...

Here here! What he said! That clock only applies to AD and DA conversion. Your soft synths are all in the digital domain. Now if what you actually mean is something like outboard compression or preamping to add grit to an audio file (such as a VI track bounced to aiff or wav), than yes I would use an Apogee for the DA and AD conversion as they sound great; if you can afford them. Here is my signal chain for such a setup:

Digi 003 DA convert --> Art MPA Gold ---> Bellari 583 ---> Digi 003 AD convert. All clocked to a Presonus Digimax LT.
