| Gear addict | Monitoring through 2-track mixdown deck? Hi, I read somewhere recently (probably on GS) that it's good practice to monitor via your 2-track mixdown deck (Masterlink here). I've done this in the past at certain times but I'm wondering why this is supposedly good practice? ![]()

| maybe so you can hear what effect the masterlink's convertors are having on your sound as it records...? that's one possible benefit

| Gear addict | Quite possibly. But why do some people think that this is *THE* way to do it? ![]()

| well, everyone has their own opinions.. but, it is generally known that there is no "THE" way to do anything.. if you've heard this from some people, it probably works best for them. i'd say it probably has to do with hearing your convertors... so, it seems a better way becuase it's more accurate as to what the final stage of your audio is. not that a normal ear would be able to hear the convertor difference, but....

however, if you are using the analog ins and coming off a desk, it is very helpful to monitor thru the masterlink because it really changes the bottom end of your mix, among other things. | |
