Thread Starter | Help me spend $1500
I have $1500, these are some things I think are cool, in order. What would you get if you were me? Any other suggestions? Machinedrum UW Monomachine Apogee Ensemble Moog Little phatty Mackiecontrol Universal Here is what I already have: Roland V-Synth Mac G5 Logic Pro 7 All the spectrasonics and NI plugs motu 828mk2 Smart C2 Distressor Greatriver mp2=nv mackie 824's Neumann KM184 Soundelux u99 Im covered for mics and pres and comps for the time being. I am mostly looking to get a cool new sound making machine. I also know I have to upgrade my soundcard before long because it is obviously the weak part of my chain. I do mostly composing, solo electronic stuff as well as for TV. |

Jomox xbase09. You can't emulate that with a computer and it will be phat as hell. machinedrum can be emulated on a pc no problem and will be outdated soon (not that it isn't a rad machine!). check it out. |

you can always donate that money to a fellow forum member. PM me for my home address... If you plan on keeping the money for your own gear purchase, I would recommend the Nord Lead 3, although I cannot remember if its under $1500.. Otherwise an Access Virus C would be cool too. Novation Supernovas are great as well.. MAX/MSP products would cost you about half that amount and you can do a LOT with it if you want to take the time to learn how to program it all, which I did not want to do. As far as the sound card thing goes - I like the M-Audio products (firewire connection) my Firewire Solo works flawlessly with my Logic Pro 7. You should go check out the new Waldorf Blofeld on their site. Its a tiny little desktop synth with 4 knobs, but if you read the specs it look unbelieveable. no idea of price or release date though. |

I was playing around with the little phatty over the weekend a a buddy's place. He's a little disappointed with his purchase and although it has the moog name, I don't think it has the sound or is worth $1000. I'm also, looking to spend $1500 in gear and have been looking at the Universal control pro, Although I think it might slow down my system. I'm only on a Powerbook g4 1.25. I would get a TC powercore for that price, with 3rd party vendors still releasing plugs for it like Tube Tech, sony, access, etc... it's standing the test of time so far and it will serve your instrument and processor needs. I picked one up awhile back, best money I've spend on gear to date. An extra $500 for the virus add-on. BTW, how often do you use your Distressor, is it worth the purchase. I need something to at some phattness to the production, thinking of a dual distressor or a phatso. any thoughts. |

you can emulate a 909 on a PC (99% there) really easily actually. PC-909 in reaktor and also the drumazon guys have a really great one. therer's a 909 4 feet away from me btw. http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=14 but i don't think that's the point really. obviously there's a lot of things you can do w/a computer and a lot of things you can do w/hardware. i've yet to find a computer w/an interface like a machinedrum or monomachine (which is really where the fun is for me) and they certainly have their own sound. sitting w/one machine in my lap w/headphones is great. a laptop and headpphones is great too. anyway- i think saying something will be "outdated" is also kind of ridiculous. software and hardware never really become outdated. is an arp 2600 outdated? what about an sh-101? as far as the original post is concerned.. i'd check out the room as well. see if you can improve the acoustics.. some bastraps maybe? i don't know if you've done that already. if you're cozy in your room and all sounds right then maybe something analog (korg ms20?) or maybe a used eventide harmonizer or eclipse. or sherman filterbank or mutronics mutator? lot's of toys here to give you ideas: http://www.analoghaven.com/ | |
