Midi Problem

Hey Everyone,
I
Trying to help a buddy of mine out with the MIDI in Pro Tools LE 7.3 on his computer and I'm running out of options. Basically what is happening is the audio is playing back fine but the MIDI "starts and stops then starts again, it slows down and then speeds up to catch up with the song". He brought his laptop to me and everything is fine, he just called me again and said its doing it again. His CPU usage is at like 5% (I even slapped on like 6 reverbs and couldn't get the usage above 20%). Anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Thanks!

hi pbell,

Make sure you don´t have some synths or controller that are sending
"system exclusive messages" (sysex) anytime via Midi to PT....like the Clavia-Modular-System for Example. Hosts don´t like that huge Midi Traffic. tutt

Pro tools shoud ´nt run in Slave Mode...Run your Application as Master.

Turn off receiving MMC or any Timcode that Pro Tools possibly receive from other Devices.

Midiclock given from an external Source can also cause the problem. !

Start with only 1 Midi Device to figure out where the prob might come from.

Hope that helps a bit.

The midi tracks may be recording a lot of unused midi continuous controller data (midi cc data). For example, if the midi master keyboard is sending poly aftertouch or something like that, it can generate massive amounts of midi data that you don't need, and this gets recorded in the midi track, and then it clogs the midi stream during playback.

Make sure you are not recording a bunch of unnecessary cc data, and if you accidentally did, go into the midi track and delete this cc data or at least turn it off so it doesn't try to send it out to the synths during playback.
