Thread Starter | BM6a for electronic music?
Anyone happily using Dynaudio BM6a for electronic music? I'm on TR8 Events but want to upgrade, but worried about the low end. I have a treated room, but don't want to buy a sub.
Thanks

The Dynaudios sound really good for electronic music. The lowend is there...but i also use some cheap computer speakers (with sub), and an assortment of other "normal" soundsystems to check my mixes.

i use the BM6a's. i like them a lot. i find them pretty balanced and the low end is enough for me. i've gotten pretty used to them though. i've always been curious about the BM15a's but i have no reason to upgrade from the 6's as they seem to be working out nicely. i really love that they aren't ear fatiguing at all. i can listen to them forever. they're quite detailed as well.
I 've had them a few years now. they replaced tannoy reveals which were decent but had no low end and were harsh on my ears

| Hmm... I just noticed that the BM15A's are actually a lot CHEAPER than the BM6A's. Check out this list at Sweetwater as an example (but it's not just Sweetwater, the Dynaudio list prices show the same thing): Dynaudio | Sweetwater.com
Why is that? The BM15A's have a larger woofer, more power, and the bass response extends about half an octave lower than the 6A. Anybody know why the 6A would cost more or why people would prefer it to the 15A?

I have used the BM6a for years on electronic music and whilst they are not big, you can balance the low end on them. Super low sub bass is an issue, but it would be on most speakers.
Just don't expect miracles as they are still only 6.5" woofers though, but they are great for working on and balance nicely.
I have some Tannoy AMS8 that I use when I want a bit more power and low end and they compliment each other. If I can get a mix to sound good on both of them, it's working. Totally different sounding speakers.
Dave: Re the BM15a, I'm surprised they are cheaper than the 6a, but I much preferred the BM6a's midrange to that of the BM15a. You could blast the 15's much more though.
In the end, I would say that the6a's are excellent monitors but I do like having larger monitors just for blasting and feeling the real low end even if I am confident of mixing low end stuff on the 6a's

Just plugged in my new bm6a and they rock : )
Everything sounds so clear, I'm hearing aspects to my mixes that I had never noticed. Everything sounds exactly where it should be in the stereo field, bass is plentiful and clear.
I'm a happy man. I was going to a/b the bm6a with the TR8s tomorrow, but I'm not going to bother now - they have a completely different sound and the bass is clear.

you will need a sub with a pair of bm6a's. They are great speakers, but they NEED a sub for low end. I used a pair very unhappily for a few months with shit mixes on other systems in the low end. I had listed them for sale and when i couldnt get anything near what i paid for them, decided to spend more instead of selling them off and got the bm9s sub to fill things out. Now i love my setup, but i would not and have not recommend the 6's alone to anyone making dance music....the low end is simply not enough for this type of music

Got used to mine too without a sub for mixing on. For blasting I use tannoys or before I had some big KEF's but for balancing, I am fine just on the BM6a's.
