Jomox Xbase 999?

Hello everyone, I have been contemplating buying this unit for a while now but just wanted some opinions as to its build quailty and sound quality! Is this machine worth the $1800.00 or not is my question I can't seem to find alot of users that have posted good demos of the unit and their is no good Youtube vids on it either. Any opinions would be welcome at this time.

I was also looking at an Akai MPC 2500 about in the same price range but am use to tr style programming. I am more of a sound designer than a sample collage artist so the MPC would be a whole new concept in workflow for me.

Thanks

build quality is fine although working with the endless knobs can be a pain at times (too jumpy). The sound is amazing. Even the samples have this great sounds to them. they just cut like nothing else (my guess is the analog VCAs per sample engine)

the OS is still under construction so there are still some bugs to weed out.

If it's worth the money that's entirely up to you. But this thing delivers what it says it does. Good analog beats!

You said it yourself, the MPC would through a monkey wrench in your workflow right now. The 999 is the best drum machine out there hands down IMHO. It's worth every penny. Since you like the TR programming, you'd fit right in with the 999 and it will definitely be the most rewarding for you. An MPC would make you change to it's way of programming sequences and you could come up with a lot of stuff that doesn't have thar oomph. The 999 is analog and will put a smile on your face everytime you use it. I'm serious. Even if I was used to playing both and they were both equally as easy, I still would easily pick the 999. BTW, Jomox makes great products and Juergen is a great guy that always answers your question and offers support. Join the yahoo groups mailing list also, there's lots of info and Juergen posts on there.

Thanks guys I needed some serious help with this decision & I really appreciate all the opinions from board members on this board. I will try to pick one up at one of the stores recommended! I do like downtempo dubb jazzy triphop so hopefully this will do the trick for me! Any other opinions are of course still welcome!

Thanks,

Paul

I've heard nothing but good things about the Jomox stuff, but at the same time I decieded instead to get an Machinedrum UW (actually got the MD and upgraded it to UW). It's a breeze (relatively) to upload samples to it, resampling can be neat, and the parameter locks make it perfect. It sounds great for what I like too (not looking for "classic" sounds), and doesn't come off as "digital" sounding to me. It simply kills Ultrabeat in Logic Pro for workflow IMHO. I wouldn't mind having a Jomox sync'd to it however.

I'd really try both out and think not just about what sounds best, but what works in your workflow and what will help you make the most music.

Question Redundant?

If you already have a real TR 909, 808, 606 and others like a Linn, or even sample based Sp-1200, is the Jomox 999 redunant?

=a

I would defently go with the sweden electron drum machine/synth if your not looking for thos specific 808&909 sounds.

I have forgotten to mention that I have owned a Machinedrum SPS-1 for the last 4 years and a UW sampling version for the last 2. This drum machine is great and of course I will never part with it but I am looking for some 808/909ish type sounds for my bread & butter.

So hopefully the Jomox 999 will deliver in this area of sound. My apologies for not mentioning the MDUW but I new if I did this thread might turn into a MDUW vs Jomox Debate! which I did not want to happen.

I guess do I buy the Xbase 999 or buy a real 808+909?

Thanks peoples!
