PSU for Novation Nova desktop

I am in desperate need for a fix/replacement on a power supply for an original Novation Nova desktop unit. What's the best place to get support on discontinued hardware like this? I'm in Philly.

Trying to finish an album and the Nova is a huge part of my sweetening arsenal, synth-wise. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Maybe try calling Novamusik or Analog(ue) Haven or maybe Big City Music. They might have a spare or direct you to a place you could buy one.

Well, as it turns out, the only US dealer listed on Novationmusic.com's site had them available for $99. But in the time it took to hear back from them, our studio's gear guru used his personal connections with a Novation rep to find me one for $65... plus the cost of overnighting it at this point...

Thanks for the help though, guys.

Praise report!

If you're a Nova user and have the original power supply (with the rubber shield around the connector), I think it's very much worth buying the revised version that they have now. It has a standard MIDI-style connector with a metal shield that holds much more securely.

My old PSU emitted quite a loud whine when the nova was turned off and a dull buzz when it was on. I always had zipper noise from expression pedal input and the audio ins were noisy. All those issues are gone now. The whole thing is cleaner, deeper, and more fun to play with!

What's even crazier is that I had major crashing issues with Pro-Tools M-Powered with just a stereo track and one midi track for the nova that I couldn't figure out for the life of me. It wouldn't work for more than a minute of sequencing. Since the new PSU, I've had (so far) no such issues. I'm convinced the PSU on the Nova was blinking for an instant, sending some sort of spurious MIDI data that sent PT reeling. [shrug]... all I know is that the new PSU is all I changed and it works now!

I don't know if I had a bum unit for almost a decade and didn't realize it, but if you experience ANY of these symptoms, don't hesistate to spend ~$75 to enjoy the true beauty of this beast again!

old nova, old problems, new possibly easy solution

I am creating a power supply for the nova laptop and months later as i am ready to finish this project have lost my notes on which pins require which voltages. it would be a solid if someone could take their trusty voltage meter and list the pins from left to right looking at the cord. there is absolutely no information easily found on the net nor is there a replacement for these crappy power supplies.

if you are someone who is looking for a power supply and stumbled across this post, stay tuned for an easy fix to your blinky-light nova crashing problems! after trying and failing to first repair the old nova psu i then decided to mod a 1-unit computer server power supply. they have all the right voltages and are easily found with nice clean voltages and more than enough amps available. since the old supply is junk i cannot figure out the voltages i can only make an educated guess and i do not want to shotgun the thing. please help!

Nova Power Supply

I am repairing a Nova desktop synth and looking for the "pin out" for the power supply. I will check the one I have but I suspect it is faulty.

HiTron Model HES24-05030-BG
Output +5V @ 3A
Output +12V @ 0.5A
Output -12V @ 0.5A
All these are DV voltages

The Hitron spec sheet has everything except the pin out.

Pin 1 - to pin 2 = +12V
Pin 1 - to pin 4 = -12V
Pin 1 - to pin 5 = +24V
Pin 3 nothing which I suspect is my problem. No +5V output.

Can anyone add to this detail?

does either your supply or nova itself get hot with the new PSU? did it with the old?

mine does, but doesn't display any of the other symptoms you describe

on possibly the same theme, and something i have just noticed again despite a relocation and change of amp/monitors (which i thought might have been the cause initially) is this:

with my nova plugged into the mains and connected to my mixer but not powered-up, noise is added to the mixer output. to make it disappear i power the nova on. is this likely to be related to the power supply issues above?

can i replace any components in the psu to resolve? i don't have the cash to order a new one
