Well seeing that drumcode has drasticly changed it's sound the last couple of years i guess you're reffering to the older drumcode releases.

I can't really give an exact answer regarding the settings but i'm pretty sure that the make and model of the compressor is'nt the key to achive the sound. I know some of the swedish techno producers of that era used alesis 3630's. I think the sound was born of the limited equipment used to make the tracks.

not all drumcode releases sound the same, so... i reckon you should post a clip of your favorite track and we'll go from there...

There are many great Drumcode tracks, how about "Compressed" by Adam Beyer. The times I've used a 3630 gave me the impression that it's not very versitile in terms of quality results, sounded "blocky" to me, not much snap, not smooth, etc.

ah, compressed... it sounds too clicky, not clicky sounds, but the compression itself doesn't have any balls... i guess it it "snappy" and clean as you describe it!

can't tell u what compressor was used for it, but i can get quite a similar sound out of my joemeek c2. u just need a really fast attack and work the threshold and release to taste

I think way more significant in point of compression are the tracks of cari lekebusch or alexi delano (adny)

anybody knows what they used..??

Great topic.

I dont know what they use for compression and it would be very hard to find out. That style of techno (the best) uses compression alot. Next time someone interviews them maybe they should ask them questions like this.

Cari I believe was using an Alesis 3630, DBX 1066, and Joe Meek (dont know the model) and still is as far as my knowledge. Just very sparingly today.

Alexi was using that presonus 8 channel compressor...ACP88 I think it was called. Also had a DBX 1066 and 566. Today he is using mostly plugins.

Remember the old Svek tune.. Snorkelmannan? Compressed madness! By Jesper and Cari (Mr. Barth). I believe that was the 1066 + TLA Ivory.

Cheers

Cari Lekebusch sent this reply to me.

"greetings here is one of the key compressors used back in the 90s to get that Drumcode/Hybrid/Swedish overcompressed sound;

DBX 160 SL (CARI)
http://www.prosonido.com/images/rent...0SL-STEREO.jpg

we used all kinds of compressors really, or what we really did was ABUSE them e :)

others brands were - Avalon, Dbx, TLA, and Drawmer gear

and off course the cutting at The Exchange

maybe you can post it to your forum buddies?

all the best // Cari "

This is what Pär Grindvik had to say,

"hi vartan,
believe it or not but on almost all my and nils (hardcell) productions on drumcode we did not use any compression at all except a little during the mastering. and then often one that is build in to one of the first versions of a program called "cool edit" ;)

some of the tracks was also mastered by jesper dahlbäck and then i think he used wave's plugs like linMB and L2.. but that's all.

hope this answer will do it and if you like you can pass me the link to the topic..

all the best! thanks!
/p "
