it doesn't look like its really a hardware synth. more of a controller, with dsp, right?

eh... i wonder how it sounds... looks a bit cheap too... but i have to say it's a great first attempt for a software only company... i give them credit for sticking their neck out and trying something new

Looks interesting

I dunno guys i think it looks pretty serious, its only 4 part multi-timbral though i think, its got alot of processing power, If it were more than 4 parts id be interested but its not, it has 10 outs! its also pretty expensive but it looks very cool
Pricing and Availability:
MSRP : $2999 USD / € 2299
MAP : $2499 USD / €1999
Available September 2007 !!!

Take a look, i dont know if i would have risked it myself, i hope it does well. Maybe the market will be more ready when it comes out?

on second thoughts, If the Virus TI sells for $2,500 It will probably do alright. I would have this over the Virus i reckon

i wonder if they've made any progress in getting the analog sound down. the virus can't do it. its a great synth but doesn't have the analog vibe.

Id expect you could go to their site and have a listen to all there virtual synths, they didnt say they made any new sound generation, it just looks to me like they put their synths in hardware, like Creamware did with their Moog ASB etc

Personally if they haven't upgraded the sound of their emulations, then I'm going to pass.

But the idea of the product is great. I guess they get a gold star sticker for trying

What is wrong with the sound of Arturia's emulations? Could you please explain?

imo, they don't have the analog sound ie. fat, warm.... they sound good but very different from a minimoog, prophet...especially on the lows/low-mids.

They sound nothing like the gear they are trying to emulate. The CS80 is moderate, the moog stuff and arp is just laughable though. I really hope they dont ruin the jp8.

And $2999 for a 4 part/32 poly basically glorified dsp card VA synth with a few knobs and buttons, a bit poor compared to other synths you can get for a lot less. Even if money was no object I wouldnt even spend that mount on this.

kingofswing, joshelevator & ten nailed my opinions right on the head. For the price of this I would rather get a used Omega 8 or andromeda, or a new polyevolver. Yeah the arturia might have more polyphony then those, but don't sound as good.

Fair enough. I have never touched the moog or a real prophet, so it makes no difference to me, but i do understand you're passion for the original sound.

BTW i own a Andromeda A6 and love the sound, and yes i would say that VA stuff does sound different to it, lacking that lower energy and natural warmth from the drifting, etc.

for the price i would also rather get real analog

BUT

as for arturia moog being a joke i disagree.

maybe soundcards and monitors make a difference, because for me on my main setup running minimoogV at 24/96, it sounds DAMN good. if i run it on a macbook through its own speakers, then yeah it sucks a bit more.

i like the sound of their stuff in general.

They are copying Elektron's business model by putting a ton of classic synth sounds in one machine and charge alot for it. Kinda cool.

I don't where I'd put that thing if I bought it since desktop space is limited and I'm not into rack modules. Needs a keyboard next.

i think the sound of the elekron synths are a lot more impressive than the arturia's. for the $$, i'd still rather go analog personally (a bunch of cheaper analog synths over one elekton-sh-101, jomox, juno,....) but i think the elektron sound is in a way different league that the virtual arturia synths.

Good idea, but I think i'll pass.

I'm not normally one to bitch about price (and they do seem to indicate that it's a REALLY strong computer processor in there), but if it were around $899 to $1599, i'd bite. I don't need to have it in the studio, but it would be nice to not take my analogue synths on the road.

I'll agree that for that price, I could go get a lot of other good stuff. I'd probably just buy another vintage analogue synth or two (damn I want a MemoryMoog), or build up a modular.
