I still badly need the extra converter and Sonnox 6-pack. The rest will be just for fun. I am a gearslut afterall.

Thanks, I guess I was lucky to find one in almost perfect condition. Even the wooden ends are in good shape. I have heard good things about the H8000. Maybe I need to read more about it.

that's some KILLER analog outboard there. GML, API, Thermionic.. all choice pieces. wow.. just wow.

i assume u mixdown OTB thru the MIDAS, aided by the compressors n stuff... can u tell me more about it, the sound, eq, sum bus/headroom ... ??

i was all into getting ATB32 for ITB, but after many reports of QC issues n loss of bass, im leaning back to my original choice, the Venice320..

thanks

Man, Id love to have a Midas in my setup. I have debating what mixer I should get for all of my gear.

I thought of an ATB, but those are way out of my reach at the moment.

Im sure the Midas is in a leauge of its own compared to Soundcraft and Allen and Heath.

Soo many decisions.

Killer setup Rob 909101

arhitecture, imho Midas is class above anything A H. ive worked live with both AH GL and Venice, if that is any reference, and difference was not subtle. an older Soundcraft like 600, 6000 or 2400, re-capped, refurbished and all that would be a bigger step above all these.

I agree! IMO it is very close to the chorus of Juno-106 but has a little less noise. It is great when used with sh-101 or andromeda (or about any other synth).

I'd love to know more about your set-up..
I'm assuming that's the DA-16x you have under your computer monitor..

How do you find the Midas? I had a Toft ATB-24 for awhile, but sold it as I found the mixer was very muddy, and lacked depth.
I like th elook of those midas mixers though, but have heard the EQ's are VERY aggressive, and are more suitable for live applications over mixing.
How are you using the rest of your outboard? Is the alan smart for the drum bus? GML for master EQ?

Fill us in!

Thanks! They work fine for me although since I've had them for so long I'm constantly tempted to try something newer to hear how they stack up.

Bentley - great gear selection!

And great looking, functional studio furniture - I'm looking at getting studio furniture/workstation exactly like the one you have, with the two inclined rack spaces on the top sides, and the standard rack-mounts on the bottom sides, synth in the middle, etc..

WHERE did you find such a functional (and with so beautiful wood) desk - did you buy it somewhere, or built it yourself/have it made?

Thank you

Guys, do you use some DI box with CE-300?

Whatever i connect in, it's way too hot. I guess this effect was designed for a guitar or something. I'm forced to reduce the synth's volume to minimum which drops signal/noise ratio.

I also have its cousin, DE-200, looks similar and is cool for delays and flangers. But due to lack of cash i have to sell it.

I usually just go direct into the unit, I don't seem to have an issue with a hot input. My only issue is that the Super Chorus only has one input, so yeah, maybe it was designed for guitar. Still sounds awesome on synths.

I just saw one in eBay for $250, overpriced if you consider I got mine for $25 at a guitar shop in Austin, TX!

Thanks for the kinds words! I built the desk myself when I couldn't find exactly what I wanted at a reasonable price.

Kudos for the work! Looks fantastic. Both me and friend concluded this is the best layout for a producer (that got tired of walking 40 times per hour from one side of the studio to the other). Well done!!! thumbsup thumbsup thumbsup

Yeah! Mine was $65. Being analog, i realized the price will go up, so grabbed it two years ago. It is an analog chorus circuit after all, made with BBD's from the Juno era (although somewhat different chips and less noisy).

Simply put them on your rack cases and then adjust the settings on the monitors according to the recommended ones in the user's manual. Or, buy the much better (but more expensive alternative), the Primacoustic Recoil Stabilizer.

Finally got into my new space. My studio isn't too slutty, but I'm trying add some vintage gear to my mostly software studio.

The full studio

hey Eric J,

How do you like the Production station desk. I have been thinking about getting one.

Is the height of desktop suitable for playing the Sl61? Is it comfort playing?

Did you find it tough to get into the back of the racks?

Is there enough leg room? (this probably depends on your height. I am 6'1)

I notice that you left the top off any particular reason other than desktop space?

do you use your jv5080 and triton a lot? Is it comfortable using them racked down like that?

I am shopping for desk and have yet to find something that i am really eager to get. Any help you provide would be greatly appreciated.

thanx

Hi there, I'll answer your questions one by one.

Its probably the best desk you can get for the money, around $500. Fairly well built, sturdy and lots of space. The rack spaces are drilled a bit funny, but its nothing you cant work around as you can see. Its certainly not a Sterling or an Argosy, but it works for the price. I have plans to upgrade to a Sterling or an Argosy Console at some point in the future, but those desks cost upwards of $2,000, so it'll be a while.

I find it perfect for me. Not too high, and not too low. Keep in mind, I never use the knobs on the SL61, I only use it as a MIDI controller keyboard. The display is a bit hard to read from a seated position, but since I dont ever look at it, it works for me. I actually have the SL61 slightly tilted toward me with some creative positioning of books underneath. I'm planning on replacing the SL61 as soon as possible with an actual synthesizer as my master keyboard. I've been very disappointed with the SL61, but that's for another thread.

I have a bit of a tough time getting back there, but thats more a symptom of the size of the room, rather than anything wrong with the desk. There is plenty of room behind the desk, so getting back there is not a problem if your room is big enough. Underneath the desk there is lots and lots of open space.

Yeah, just enough leg room for the height of the main work surface. Im 6 foot, so your results would probably be similar to mine. If it was any higher, the work surface would be too high for me. I have my work chair raised all the way up and it is still comfortable for me.

Well, I left it off because I really hate having to look up at my displays. I wanted the displays right in front of me. That more of a personal choice for me. I spend most of my time staring at those displays, so I needed something that was comfortable for me.

Having the two units mounted below is not the ideal setup, but its the only real good place to put them in that desk. I control both of them through software, so I dont have to get to the front panels all that often, so it works out OK for me.

Ideally, I'd prefer to have them on either side of the displays, but there isn't really a good way to do that with this desk, so I just work with what I have.
