Basscakes, I live two blocks from that new Dominics. We must be neighbors. I like West town too. We (my wife, two kids, and myself) lived in Wicker Park for three years but found a place to buy down here (not one of those new mansion condos). Much quieter here than WP, which is nice. Our last place was on Division at Damen and by the time we moved out there were three restaurants on our block with valet parking. Obnoxious. The only thing that sucks now is being further from the blue line (which is actually starting to suck from being too crowded now anyway).

The Chicago bus is great, but yeah the train is no good. I Work right at Noble SQ. at the intersection of Ashland and Milwaukee, so I can walk to work. That is a blessing most of the time (not in the last 2 weeks though). I moved here from Boston last year, and after hunting all over the city, West Town definatly had the best bang for the buck. thumbsup I am worried about how the are will change once Dominics opens. It seems like there is a real good thing happening with indy buisness right now on Chicago and I hope Dominics does not screw that up...

NY and LA are pretty bad too from what I hear.

The sad thing is that Boston, although close to New York, is not New York...

Oh man, I hate the Chicago bus. Especially going westbound in the pm rush hour. I'll wait about 25 minutes for one to show up at the Chicago Ave blue line stop and three will come together. So dumb, and it happens almost every time.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Dominics. Even North Avenue and Division which are now in more yuppified areas just north still have their small business store fronts. I guess they're just more pricey. It's funny right now on Chicago Ave there's two hookah stores within a quarter mile from each other.

I actually live about 3 store fronts down from the new Guess Hooka. It is a fairly nice establishment. I believe the same people own both of them, but the one over by the soon to be Dominics was busted for selling paraphenalia, so they relocated the main buisness because there is a different, hooka friendly alderman or someone in contol on the east side of Damen. The Chicago bus is great in the morning, but I would agree it sucks at night. It is not nearly as bad as the Damen or Ashland though...

While we are on the subject of Chicago, I am wondering if anyone knows of a electronics supply place that is not a radio shack in the Chicago area. I need to buy a new soldering iron...

live in Wicker Park Central just off of Honore and Milwaukee. I am from So Cal., but have lived in many neighborhoods in chicago for the past 12 years. This has been my nicest place yet to live and have felt the safest here in wicker park until feb27. 2 mexicans kicked the shit out of me and slashed my throat from my adams apple to the back of my spine for no apparent reason. I wasnt mugged. im not flamboyant, I dress. well blue collar. I am still recovering and obviously cant sleep because it is 6 in the morning and haven't gone to bed yet. well atleast i am still alive and some dirty, angry , yet meloncholy music and art will come of it.

it happened right by the beachwood bar or a block and a half away from the corner of wood and milwaukee where wallgreens and the 711 is. I'm going to laguna beach tomorrow for some rest and relaxation outside of this city.

F*ck man!! That really sucks that you cant even walk home without being a random target of bullsh*t like that. Im really sorry that happened to you. I guess I should consider myself lucky. I used to live at Walton and Paulina and I have walked home drunk on a few occasions from the Beachwood and other places on the Milwaukee strip. Enjoy that vacation buddy.

Take care

Chicago is the best deal in a big city in the US Period. I have a 2 bedroom Modern loft w/central air, in apatment washer dryer, and dish washer in West Town/ East U Village on Chicago ave for $950 a month. You could not even rent a bathroom in the coasts for that much. My jaw still drops when I see the prices to buy property in this city. Anyone who thinks this city is expensive is crazy.
