Who here makes Dance? Breakbeat especially

I will probably get hammered for this one by some...

But I grew up in Orlando when the breaks scene was HUGE. I mean, it was bigger then any rock scene in the southeast.

Anyway, I started with tracker programs and was really into club music. I have finally gotten a little time to get back into it. I really have always liked Orlando breakbeats. Not all...some are just poorly produced. But I am looking to find current producers that are making great stuff.

Some things I have noticed lately:

There is some killer house out there right now in this scene. Just badass trancey arps and gates, but more hyper and harder then the norm.

Orlando breakbeat is actually coming back, I have heard some great tracks at the trendier clubs...the problem is that I don't know who the **** produced them!

I'm looking to get some new music to A/B to when I mix down...I apologize for this "club music" thread....but that is what I have always liked.

If it is any consolation, I am also producing a much more darkwave/indie album that even has autoharp, a female singing songs with verse/chorus/bridge, and live guitar and bass...but that is for another thread!

I'm from Orlando but just moved to Holland. Anyways I know the breaks scene there pretty well, been invlolved with it since 1992. I've done a few breaks mixes myself, one for M-Theory (bedrock breaks) not too long ago. I've also got a track on Babyanne's lastest mixcd. For the most part though I'm house/prog/tech etc...

Have to say though i always thougt the breaks out of orlando were pretty poor. the production quality is just not up to standards, can't touch places like the UK etc...

Jesse, you were here when it was great. Good to see you are doing well out in Holland. We had some serious talent in this area during the 90s like Jesse.

Yeah..the Orlando Breaks production quality is not so hot. It's more the vibe of it that I liked..some used a lot of Miami bass influence like Babyanne.

I wish I had more names of the break producers that I like..that is pretty much what im looking for now is names. I hear tracks every night that I love when im out, but I never catch the names.

I know that scene very well also and was the resident Dj from the Edge in Ft Lauderdale. I agree with what Jesse said regarding production of the tracks back then. But if your just looking for Orlando Style Break Producers you can try Icey, Sandy, D-Xtreme, Andy Hughes, Huda Hudia.
Good Luck, Hope that helps you out some.

We produce breakbeats...not so much FL style, moer big-beat Crystal Method meets NIN/Depeche Mode.
You can hear us on our myspace
http://www.myspace.com/theoryinmotion

Anyways, I also spin breaks...particularly nu skool breakz. Want to hear the new shiz coming out from not only the UK but the US.

http://www.releaserecords.com

check out the new releases tab, click breaks

Pretty much every new release for ALL breakbeat labels are putting their tracks for sale their.... and you can buy the mp3 for download for just over $1.

Hope that helps.

I also make breaks of various styles, but kinda lean towards the nuskool sound. Check out my myspace and my website for audio clips and discog. Actually have an album to be released in about late feb. Check out http://www.bijoubreaks.com/ for a mix i did for them in Nov 06.

Are there any examples/links of the orlando sound? I'd be keen to check it out.

The main guys I have heard from the US are Uberzone and Crystal Method.

I used to DJ breaks for 10 years before I stopped last year. Also run Ritmic records, a label specialising in the breakbeat sound. That was started in 2002. I produce breaks but not exclusively. I think the sound has lost a lot of its appeal and yeas I also think most of the stuff out of florida sounds a bit samey. However the sort of vibe is nice because of the excessive use of 808's

Producing breakbeat, as opposed to house or other styles with a straight kick can be difficult for one reason: not having a kickdrum running through on all fours takes a bit more effort in other places (bass) to get the groove going. nothing new really as most rock music etc. is basically breaks (drumpattern) based.

Also Mike and Charlie. They're in Vegas now. Uberzone like posted above. Plump DJ's made some of the best sounding breaks I've ever heard, but I'm not sure where they are from. Can't forget guys like Rob-E, Infinity, Dave London, DJ43 (one of my fav songs, "Pepper Spray"), DJ X, DJ Lax, and K5

Ya Mike and I have been 'gearslutz' for quite a while now, nice to have a section on this forum now as well. We used to call my signal chain the "rack of death".

ahh, f'n loved that club. First "big" club I ever went to, and it was rated the 3rd best club in the country or something wasn't it? I'll never forget the first time I walked in there. I thought "this is what a club should be like". Spent my 21st there. Then I got to know this bartender at Icon and started hanging out there. I remember Baby Anne doing the 9pm slot

yeah... was nuts... i went to school at full sail so when we came down from the nyc scene it was a happy thing for us to have a local club... i don't remember much about firestone () except being able to chill outside coming from nyc, this was amazing - being able to chill outside at the club - especially in nice weather. in nyc, club season is winter...

also remember sasha was spinnin their often, no? he wasn't so huge back then though... this was like in 96...

Not sure about Sasha, it's possible. They had a ton of people come through. I was there a couple years after you.

I was there the night they raided the place, if you heard about that. It was on the news. They locked us in the club for about 30 mins. Some dude OD'd right at the front door, about 50' from where we were. Hauled him off in an ambulance. Too much G I guess, whatever.

The outside was kinda cool. Saw some guy get knocked out just outside the "little room".

I think Firestone is mainly a hip/hop club now.

yess...Firestone was the shit. I saw tons of sick DJs there. I remember Rabbit in the Moon killing it, even Keoki would show up and destroy the place. What a scene we had in Orlando in the 90's.

ritm = my fav group ever... lol

the first time i seen them live was on some serious party meds, 1994 (maybe95), in a 4 ft snow storm blizzard at Limelight NYC.... what a night man... was never the same after that... was so happy to see them perform many times after that...

keoki use to rock out on wed nights back then as well.. disco 2000... another sick party...

thats a shame that firestone diluted into hip-hop :(

ritm played here not too long ago. I almost shat myself because the venue was so small. It was like playing at a small corner bar really. The venue is a cool place, but way small for someone like that. Bunny showed up and they set up some stuff, but I think they were having problems with the owner or some shit so they just left. It really sucked as I was looking forward to seeing them. Had some other dj's/etc there but nothing spectacular.

I've seen Monk a few times at Icon and Tabu. He's pretty crazy.

Man, it seems like a lot of shit went downhill after the 90's. Look at record sales in general.

Yep, it was part of the political agenda to start shutting the clubs down at 2AM. They said they had "warrants". Whatever. There was almost 2,000 people there I believe. I was pretty pissed. Talk about a buzz kill..haha. "why are all the lights on?" "What are those swat guys in masks and suits doing?"

A lot of people went to Cyberzone after that. I spent some time there. What a shit hole that was. Found a bunch of money of the floor one night though.

yeah cyberzone was a place to buy drugs that accidently had a dance floor and speakers in it.

firestone does have live rock bands now. I saw Ladytron there, and it was badass.

The 2 clubs I have heard really good breaks and house currently are Vintage and Suite B.

I do breaks too, and I'm originally from Orlando as well...it must have been something in the water :-). Wasn't into the scene heavily when I was there, but it still seeped through. I do more epic/soundtrackish type breaks as well as downtempo and other stuff, I have a couple things out on Proton and some other dance labels...
