chris "daddy"dave.

if you've never seen him live, it's truly a moving experience.

think Dejonnette, tony, Questlove, Vinnie... but all his own thing.

I'll try to dig up some more.

He's the drummer for The Roots. I thought that was the name they gave to their sampler for soooo long.

And damn, Chris Dave reminds me of a yound DeJohnette with Miles circa Bitches Brew.

Thanks, cajonezzz - that's some badass shit.

Cheers,

bsp

That's some serious fireworks. I like it but I'd rather hear a good tune with solid grooves, and save the explosions for the where they would fit in a song. But either way, it is a treat to watch that go down, and inspirational.

That gtr. player is the texture of the group in the first video. And he appears to barely move his hands.

Ahmir Thompson, and he's unreal. I think he's one of the greatest drummers of the past 25 years. I can't think of a drummer that has totally broken the mold and been quite as innovative since Stewart Copland. I'm surely overlooking some great drummers over the past 25 years, but I can't think of anyone else that has changed drumming so much. This guy has also played in the studio and live with Erykah Badu, Joss Stone, Jay-Z, and many, Pat Martino and Christian McBride (check out the Philadelphia Experiment album) many others that I can't think of. He also does a boatload of producing and is a great enineer, especially with creating those great drums sounds. A true ninja.

Man, that was smelll-eee! Just great. Thanks for the links! Wonder who did some of those licks first, ?uestlove or chris. Sick. Inspiring.

Ya know, if you guys haven't seen Michael Bland outside of his performances with Prince years ago, I highly recommend it as well. He stretches bars into moving liquid phrases and has insaaane power AND finesse as well.

Chris Dave. That was great :-)

Thanks, Craig!

P.S. My foot's getting better! Got a ways to go to get that control, though, ha ha!

Have you lot seen "Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue" dvd?

De Johnette and Holland holding down some killer grooves. Airto Moreira looking like he just drank a vat of liquid acid.

It was recorded live at the Isle of Wight right after "Bitches" was released.

Actually, I've never seen Miles on film. I've got a lot of the re-issues with some fantastic outtakes but I've never seen a DVD I'd ever considered getting.

It's available through Amazon, yes? I might have to track it down.

Thanks for the recommend, Sui.

Cheers to you,

bdp

Dave

Nice...the man can play. I have soured somewhat on jazz - fusion / self - indulgent music as of late...but I can still appreciate the virtuousity. Fierce...
