diy triggers?

i am looking to make some diy triggers (piezo) that:
  • are external
  • don't involved taking any hardward off
  • can be removed and reused

can i just wire the leads of a piezo to a ts cable and plug it into a drum brain? i know it can't be that simple, but ....?

That'll work ;-) There are other ways to do it that may give better results but you can do the radio shack piezo thing with some double sided tape and see if it suits your needs. Good times :-) Also, try using a cheap mic as a trigger. A cheap dynamic plugged into a drum brain works. Crosstalk is a bit tricky.

You can also build piezo mounts like the D Drum ones without too much difficulty as well. Someone recommended trying some moon gel between the piezo and the head. I haven't tried that yet.

Just out of curiosity what are some good cheap drum brains to use for this type of thing? I'm just looking for something to plug triggers into and send out some midi.

The new Alesis Trigger I/O is super cheap ($150) and is great for this purpose :-) It has built in USB as well.
Comes out after NAMM. If you need something sooner, an Alesis DM5 would work or Roland trigger interface.

Check out Billy Blast Drums Snare drum, drum kits, drum shells, cymbals, slingerland, drum lugs, keller drum shells He's got "Blastech" Drums that you can play electric or acoustic. Also has "Blasters" Drum Triggers that come with screen heads. I use both, really good.

Well, here's a pic of the new version of the drumbot (not quite finished yet). This one's got the pimp 9 inch lcd screen on the front with built in 20gb drive for video!

I've gotta attach my homemade plexiglass cymbal things...
