Werd.

Small drums CAN sound big.
I have seen drummers who hit like King Kong AND sound good. I personally perfer to go for a big sound with as much effeciency as possible just cuz the "harder" I hit the more tense i get which kills my stamina. I am old.

I have found that small drums can fit well in loud rock but I have never been able to get large drums to fit in a jazz gig, and I have tried. Sometimes, when one has to rely on rental kits in a remote place you might have to back a jazz singer using huge Pearl Exports with old black dot heads on ALL the drums. Try using brushes on those all night!! Smaller drums with single ply coated heads would have been preferable.

MY Studio Kit In House

I have my kit setup in my living room in an apartemt . For starters doulbe layer carpet on the floor and a drum carpet under the kit.
My Kitis a kids CB set done over for adults to use it repalced a bit of tubing here and there and longer legs on the floor tom
Kits is 12"or 13' snare 16" kick toms 8 & 10" floor tom 14"
added in a se tof REMO bogos as more high toms as well 6 & 6.5"
Cymblas a cross section of pie plates and an Entree level Sabain Solar pack 14" 16 Crash then a 22 " ride and my pie plates added in for crashes plus some small 3 - 6 " cymals mouted on a custom mount
so cymblas have are 8 across from small to big and hats .

The Solar kit matches he drum kits over all volume and are Ok for the bread got me going .
I also have home made cow bell made out of an old hand warmer case and made chimes as well took the chimes plates out of some kids toys and work real well
I figure go big witht he cymbals for tone take them in out to drummer choice . Also having the bongos in there if I have any latin work the drummer has them to work with as well as doing them big cross fills the rockers use ect.
Th e pie plate cymbals as crashes kick but and cut real well I'l use them till they break and repalce as i can .

I'mn ot a for real drummer but it's my in house kit I've had a couple of buddys up on it with no complaints
Plus having smaller shells the replament cost isn't to bad as well.
I just picked up an Apex drum pack and have someother mics to fill out things eict lus have apx 4 choices of OH mics I can try out also .

Most druumer shave passed this on to me is tuningthe kit is half the battle on a kit as long as the shells hold there tuning can take so -so kit and work it .
this housekitisn'tgoing anywhere either takestolong to setupthemics and fine tune every thing better tojus tleave it up and keep in house .

A RadioKing KIT?! I didn't know they made whole kits... thought it was only snares. Maybe the script on the BD head is tricking me?

I bet that came out of Pro Drum Shop. I gotta make it down there the next time I have about 2 grand to spend.

Looks like a great kit! Congrats!

For a set like these, plan on spending more than 2 g's!
i got it from a private seller.

13,16, 22..the bass drum is fast becoming my all time favorite.

Gene Krupa played Radio king sets in the 40'and 50's

Heres a picture of Louie Bellson playing my actual kit in the studio recently.
This kit has been played on by everybody from Earl Palmer,Jimmy Cobb to Clem Burke,etc,etc..some serious history behind it.

Great instruments that have been played by anyone great always have a ton of mojo inside them. The coolest mojo-laden stuff I have would be Jim Gordon's (Derek and the Dominos) cymbals, which he lost after going to prison for killing somebody while he was all coked up.

Good to see Louie Bellson is still around. Too many of the old legends are gone. thumbsup

Take Great care of that kit!

CRAVIOTTO:I've died and gone to heaven

Got these today.
Single ply steam bent maple shells.
they are the most beautifully crafted drums I've ever seen or played
they sound sick.the floor tom sustains a note for a full ten seconds
Tuning range is off the scale.
Warm,punchy,round,resonant and huge sounding.
great projection and "thump" factor.
I'm looking forward to trying a real calfskin on the FOK.
they are a pure joy to play.
I'm not worthy.
Seriously.

UN-F*CKING-REAL

Bad cell phone picks don't do em justice.
the finish is all silver sparkle lacquer.gorgeous

The Crav has got to sound unreal! Another brand I didn't know came in full kits!

I've got one Crav snare and it's the most distinct, rich sound I have of all my drums. A whole kit like that would be very special indeed!

Congrats again RB!

Where's THIS one from?

I might have to rent it someday, if it makes the rental roster.

There's something about North drums which is so bewilderingly 80's that I can't help but put up a pic on this thread ...

Best regards,

If you're going to buy a new Gretsch kit, the Renown is pretty cool, especially the kick. The Catalina is decent, but if I had to choose between the two, Renown is a level up. I can't tell what model the kit is from the pics.
