After a rather short two month wait, my Starclassic Maples arrived today! I got the Coral Reef Blue and must say, it's much more stunning in person than any of the finish swatches on Tama's site would lead one to believe.
Sizes are:
7x8
8x10
8x12
13x14
14x16
18x22
This is my second SCM kit and I'd forgotten how amazing these things sound. Incredible! They're headed into the studio later this week, too.
Pics for your enjoyment (click them for a large version, too): |

| Yup, nice!
If I had a pair of tympani like that, I'd tune them to a key flattering the song, and mic them up to get sympathetic vibrations while the kit is being played. But I'm not Steve Albini.

Heres's my newly acquired kit with old stands
Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute Nouveau in Yellow Sparkle Fade...this thing is the sex. Bass is 24x18 and sounds like a punch to the heart.
Question: Black Beauty brass/brass tube lug in 5x14 or 6.5x14? It will be my first Ludwig snare purchase...
Fun thread!

Fun thread! | both....seriously, they're both great. If it were me, I'd grab both from WorldMax. Google them. The 5" version is about $200 and the 5.4" is about $250. George Lawrence's shop in Ohio sells them. I have both sizes in vintage Ludwig in the regular supra, or ludalloy shell. I also have a 6.5" modern bronze shelled Luddy. But, these Black Dawg/Hawg, etc drums totally hold their own.
later,

Fun thread! | Love the Yamaha's!
I have the 5x14 Ludwig Black Beauty tube lug (the newer re-issued model) and love it. However, I'm constantly wishing I had the 6.5x14. Playing hard rock, I'd just really like to have the added options that 6.5 gives.
As stated before, though...you really can't go wrong with either!

Here are some pics of my pre-mid life crisis. :-) I like to refer to the finish as "Regal Blue to Candy Black Burst over Guinness Beer Cloud". |
