Which Kit(s) Hold Their Tuning?!?!?!?!

I hate asking questions like this but here goes anyways:

Out of all the companies and their respective lines, what ones really hold their tuning. A friend of mine was braggin about his new 5000$ DW kit. Got it into the studio, sounded great, tuned it myself (I KNOW HOW TO TUNE FOR REAL) sounded even better. However after only a take or 2 it was sounding like the tuning was drifting. Now the drummer doesn't hit that hard so it shouldn't be this much of an issue.

I realize he might of gotten some warped shells, but I'm just looking for other peoples opinions.

thanks in advance.

Can depend on many things..
But with high end drums.. i don't see any brand better than others.

Yeah, and obviously a hard player can change the game

Generally any kit with good edges..round shells..good well mantained lugs[and lug locks help, especially on rimshot happy players ]and decent hoops..die cast's hold up well ,but can deaden the tone on some drums[my 1960's gretsch's have diecast hoops ..hold tuning very well]

i've got some old 3 ply maple ludwigs from the sixties that hold tuning for ever..

But I also had a giant 70's Ludwig Stainless Steel kit that was a bitch to tune and stay in tune[wish i didn't sell em tho..$$$ ]

Ive also had $$ newer kits go out after 2 songs

My Pearl Masterworks kit holds tuning very well! I rarely have to tune the kit. I do have to regularly tune the snare drum ( TAMA Starclassic ) as it gets hit with rimshots all the time.

Lug locks help: http://www.luglock.com/luglock.htm

As RB pointed out cast rims can help hold tuning really well!!

I suspect the tightness of the fit of the head on the bearing edge can influence tuning consistency and robustness!!

Back on topic: the Tamburo Opera is amazing for keeping its tuning,

Yamahas.

Yamaha hardware is made in the same place where Yamaha builds their motor bikes. Everybody, (EVERBODY!!!) else is made in the Dixon/Gibraltor factory. DW's design, Pearls design, their specs, but not their manufacturing. You have to abuse Yamahas to break them. So this includes the tension rods and the lug nuts which are tougher than everybody else.

Second, they put their lug housings on with Nodel point technology. That's penetrating the shell at the point where there's the least amount of resonance and in return, the less friction created in the tuning mechanisms because it's receiving the least amount of vibration.
