Shell Edges?

I was checking the edges on my shells. I feel a few spots that are not as smooth. How bad does a ding have to be before I have to get the edges redone? It's very small

got any picks?

how old are the drums?

a couple small dings won't kill the drum..
but a bunch of spots where you feel flatness and wear can kill your tuning /tone and range
...an old drum thats out of round is a real problem

i have my own router table to redo or cut fresh ones on the drums I build ...
..so i'm kinda anal anout edges

I had an older snare's bearing edges recut. The edges were not horrible, just a little dinged ect form years of use. The new edges being cut made it sound way better to me and it is almost like a new drum. I have a new set of Ludwig custom maples and those edges are ok, not great for a new kit so they are going to be redone when I get some down time with the band and won't be using my kit 4 times a week.

I am unsure about the bass drum and will probably just leave it be. RB, you think I should bother re cutting the kick?

Yeah, it sounds fine as is, so I think I'll leave it be. I use a 24" and like it kind of thumpy so I have no need for a ton of attack coming off the kick. That Luddy kit actually sounds pretty damn good, even for a wrapped kit and once the edges are redone it will be stupendous. Thanks.
