Afro perc shop suggestions

I'm in the market for some things (primarily West African...I think) and am looking online at a couple of places. They seem to have their stuff together, and have solid return policies.

I'm looking at World Wide Drums, and at World Musical Instruments dot com.

Any other ideas appreciated, as these are first-time purchases.

Question

hmmm no answer on the african percussion, sorry, but that quote is interesting..

-- Aren't we all in our own little "reality"? Like a bubble? And sometimes our bubbles overlap with other bubbles? and crash? Is what we percieve not our reality? Or is there another universal reality? Or rather more accurately more other universal realities in space and time?

Yes, yes, and yes.

All of which could serve as a reply to my original question...in which case, I'll probably go ahead and order from those people; I feel as though their reality would sync nicely with my reality...

Drummers World in NYC always has good sounding pieces, you'd have to google. Also google Steve Wright hand drums----good clay udus, doumbeks, shakers....

if you can't find them, email me

This store in San Francisco has the most amazing collection of acoustic instruments from all over the world, including percussion:

http://www.larkinam.com/

You have been warned. Visiting the site (or worse - going into the store) is like getting addicted to crack. You think you got troubles buying slutty gear now, just wait....

Surdu, djembe and Ashiko?
surdu is a Brazilian bass drum, and the latter 2 are African. IMO to keep in the genre, you may want to look for a Djun Djun(Dunun) intead of surdu, though Surdu's are cool. They have more of an oomph than transients. Djun Djun will get you there. surdu gets you the low end obviously, but considering the larger ememble its usually used with a muffled beater vs secualr African uses a hard beater and supports a team of djembe drummer (rhythm & lead).

Here's a coupple more authentic centered places I 've seen, though have never shopped.
