I use the DW (what used to be the high end 5000 series is now called the 9000 series, and I think the 5000 got a bump down) and it was available in a Low option. I use 14" x 8" snares religiously so I needed one that is lower. You can always cut a few inches off the part that inserts into the base and make an existing one smaller. Just use a pipe cutter and your done in about 5 minutes.

This might work:

Buy a drumset snare stand (any).
Pick up a multi-clamp like this (or any other):

Clamp the snare basket to the lower part of the snare stand or other available (sturdy) spot.

right on.
Thanks, Colin.

Coincidentally i'm using this Taiwaneese DW 4000 series stand.
I've played with it and after removing/repositioning a couple parts i got it down to about the height of a typical 16x16 floor tom on legs. But i'd still like to go down another inch or two, as it will serve another function in mounting a 12x15 Camco Oaklawn Tuxedo tom i just found to complete my 3 piece Camco set. Its actually for that drum that i'd like to get it a little lower.

I may just have to get a RIMS mount and latch onto a cymbal stand though.

anyways... thanks again.

hey man being a drummer i had this same problem that i couldnt find a snare stand that went low enough for me. i just hate kits that are all based around a high seat and high posture. much rather being down low and slamming rimshots and putting all my bodyweight into the kickdrum. i found that yamaha was the lowest and worked for me after trying a bunch of stands out at the store.

artbeat, i just did some measurements.
that multi clamp will work with my stand, and it looks like it will give me those last 2 inches i need. thanks again!

contramark, i'm with you. having a couple bebop kits i've become used to sitting low and relaxed. Its funny, when i got my Ludwig Standard with the 14x14 floor tom, i wanted the legs to be longer so i could get it up higher. But after just a couple days i found it to just be better overall, plus that posture suits the music that we use that kit for.

just a little update, i went with this gibraltar clamp:

http://www.music123.com/Gibraltar-SC...p-i93456.music

and it allowed me to drop the height of the DW4000 snare stand 3 inches!
If i want to go lower i'll have to do some pipe cutting but i think this is perfect.
thanks again.

I have a Yamaha SS940, which gets quite low. Try any of the SS series though. I used a simple cutter to take 3 inches off of it and now it's absolutely perfect for my 15"x12" Ludwig snare.

That's the clamp I have. I just found the other one first which is why I wrote "(or any other)." I'm glad it worked, and Gibraltar stuff is built to take a beating.

Hi Adam,

If you don't mind drilling into it you could attach a set of floor tom legs to it. You could go pretty low that way.

My first thought was to get the RIMS floor tom mount which was a ring that went all the way around the drum but I think they only made 16" and maybe 18" ones . . probably not 15" not even sure if they make them at all any more.

OK, here it is and they make a 15" one :

Best of luck!

yea you can still get the RIMS mounts for floor toms
drummaker.com has some for under $60, but no 15's with legs.
I may, in the future, grab a 15" top rim suspension mount, and mount it to an arm clamped to a ride stand.

no biggie for now though. The DW 4000 snare stand, lowered with the gibraltar clamp is working out just great. I just make sure not to tighten the stand too much so that i don't choke the drum.

Here's the other thing I was trying to remember, the Tama Air Ride stand :
http://www.ruppsdrums.com/Hardware/T...e_stands.shtml

Doesn't look like they make a 15" and of course that little base would never hold up a big drum if you flipped it around to clear the stand but I thouht it might give you and idea or two anyway.

Have fun!
