Special kick pedal for players with poor control of rebound

I have definitelly seen this one time, a drummer with a strange kick pedal.

You could push the pedal down as normal, and keep your foot down. Instead of staying pressed against the head the beater would hit the drum and automatically bounce back.

At rest the beater stayed vertical.

Anyone know what this is?

I'm pretty sure The Duallist works like that, although the point is to provide double bass -esque effects with one foot, not to be a crutch for drummers who always bury the beater. It triggers one hit when you press down with your foot, and another when you let up.

i remember sitting really quick and trying it out, thinking it was strange/cool, but not much more. now i have an application where it would be really useful and wish i took a picture or wrote down the name or something.

maybe i need to facebook the facebook the facebook the drummer

I've been involved with drums and gear for a long time, and I've never heard of such a pedal. Your difficulties are something that usually will go away with practice, so it would be odd for someone to make a pedal that does this, at least on purpose.

I'm assuming you've tried different pedals, beaters, tension, drum heads, etc.? If you play heel up, try heel down, and vice-verse. You could try adjusting your throne height as well.
