A noob seeking advice

It's difficult to know where to begin, but I have been looking for mid/low end drum sets to play some metal, post-hardcore stuff. Right now I'm looking at the pearl forum 8-piece -- Pearl Forum 8-Piece Double-Bass Drum Set and more Acoustic Drum Sets at GuitarCenter.com. -- but I have a couple questions:

1) Is this a quality drum set?
2) Is the hardware any good. If not, what do you suggest?
3) Is it even WORTH getting an 8 piece for this price range?

I've seen some general suggestions on mid/lower end sets like gretsch catalina, yamaha custom advantage, and tama rockstar, but am not sure if they would be good for playing metal/hardcore.

Any replies are appreciated.

Firstly. These r pretty cheap drums, but with good heads will sound ok.(in my opionion.cheap drums / good heads sound better than good drums/ shit old heads)
Secondly the hardware should be pretty good. All pearl hardware is (even the lower range) its probably there strong point.
Thirdly, u really.should b looking @ used stuff for that money as new drums dont hold there value very well. You should b able 2 find something much better for the money.

One more thing, unlike guitars drum brands arent really taylored to styles of music. U should just probably b looking at big shells from any brand for heavy stuff. But its really just a matter of personal opinion.

You can also consider a kit with one kick and a double pedal. I certainly wouldn't stop anyone from getting two kicks, but as a working drummer I'm always trying to keep my setup to a minimum.

Thank you both for the replies. I've been looking online for some used sets and i'm already seeing some that i'm interested in! And yes while it would be nice to have 2 kicks, i'd like to keep space down as well since i'll be moving it quite a bit.

One of the kits is a Pearl Export 5 piece with 16 zbt crash, 20 zbt ride, and pair of 14 hi hats, with 2 rogers cymbal stands, pearl hi hat stand, and and PDP double bass pedal, along with a single pedal. Assuming everything's in working condition, would it be a good buy for $500?

PDFer here.

what exactly is your budget?

and you cant tell if its a good deal just by the name...
look at its condition.
CHECK THE BEARING EDGES!!!!

but as for a pearl export w/ crappy cymbals doesnt measure up to $500. especially in todays buyers market.

thats like a $300 set. its used right?

tell me your budget and i'll give you my best suggestion.

Ultimately, I'd only want to spend around $500-800 for everything including hardware, cymbals etc. But I could go as high as $1000.
