a good 7 piece drum mic kit?

maybe im doing search keywords incorrectly, because i cant find anything...

i want to mic up my drum kit to do some recording. i figured it would be easier to buy an entire mic kit/bundle rather than buying each seperatly.

I've heard good things about shure. I'd be willing to spend betwen 500-700 for a good 6-7-8 piece mic kit.

suggestions?

thanks

Your question is like "I want to cook a meal". Yeah, what kind of meal? In what kind of room? For what kind of music? In short, ye olde "you get what you pay for" still applies, just as "mic position is more important than mic" (except if your mics are... errrmm -insert cussing-)

So if the kit is tuned & the room's okay
-Audix: kinda like pre-eq'd, "modern" sounding, clicky kick. top value for the money
-some chinese case of whatever, f.e. Superlux: if you haven't too much money, don't hesitate to buy them. Obviously the quality is not quite there, but they do the job.
-Beyerdynamic: yeah, you wish they were in your pricerange. Dream on.
-CAD: thumbs up, a hodgepodge of chinese and other mics. Does the job.

I don't know of any recording engineer who has used a "drum mic kit" and has been proud of the recording. I think mic kits are just like cymbal kits or drum head kits; they're okay but not great. They are put on the market to reach a certain price point (unless you are considering the Earthworks bundle).

If you drill into the threads on this forum, you'll find people use a wide variety of mics used for drums, and a few mics show up consistently for certain uses.

Snare: Shure SM57
Toms: Sennheiser 441
Kick: Audix D6, AKG D112, and Shure Beta 52.
Overhead: Large diaphragm AKG C214, small diaphragm Sennheiser e914.

Ultimately, it depends on your budget, your mic pre amps and your personal tastes. There is no perfect mic kit.
