Best place to buy cymbals?

I want to buy some quality cymbals to upgrade my son's kit. Got any insight into places with great prices? Off or online.

The best way to buy cymbals is in person because of lack of consistency but the cheapest place is Ebay. I would say the most consistent cymbals are Paiste because they are not hand hammered so if you buy online Paiste poses the least risk.

Now I am going to contradict myself by telling you I purchased a brand new K Constantinople 22 inch medium thin high ride off Ebay for $300 and it sounds wonderful

You can also get cymbal packs from the big box stores which usually caries a significant discount.

Craigslist or Kijiji come to mind.

Otherwise, ask a local drummer pal - he might do some legwork for you: could land you a deal for something of high enough quality for your kid to grow with.

good luck!

Yes, ask a local drummer in a music store... And FYI, if your son needs an 'upgrade', but doesn't know how to shop for brass in person, then he isn't ready for top-notch, professional cymbals.

Just buy a box set or some used ones and when he knows the difference, he won't let anyone buy him cymbals... He will pick them personally.

Best.

I vote craigslist. Depending on how much time you have, stalk stalk stalk and you WILL find some sweet ass deals. You just have to be ready to jump on em. Also you can go and try them out in person

True.. I found a Sabian hand-hammered raw-bell dry ride for $100 on CL!! Of course, you have to deal with all the normal CL crazies for those deals.

Guys thank you greatly for the feedback. When I first posted, I didnt realize that cymbals each had an individual character, which makes complete sense. So I did my online research, then went and did some in store testing. Tested tons of cymbals and eventually found 3 great sounding ones.
