Drum brain I can load my own samples?

A friend of mine from an 80's band is wanting to tour. He is looking for a simple drum brain that is rackmount, and he can load all his own samples into it and trigger. Something robust, and inexpensive would be ideal. Doesn't have to be new. 8 i/o's.

There is only Alesis with a unit fitting your criteria. Everything else comes in a non rack mounted enclosure and at a greater price point.

Hey I have used DDrum 4 for a few years on the road and its super robust. A bit fiddly to load your samples via midi dump but it works.
The trigger is very precise and much faster than if you run a midi trigger.
Otherwise I think most new drumbrains for electronoc kits these days has USB for sample load but most are a bit flimsy for the road.
Hope this helpsthumbsup

an MPC1000 with a trigger to midi converter of choice is always an option.
Alesis do a good cheap unit. mounting is an issue there though.

an AKAI CD3000 fully expanded with a hard drive is another option.
They load WAVs off CDs you burn yourself. they also integrate directly with 2 Akai ME35T trigger to midi converters. so a full 16 channel trigger system is possible with that. quite comprehensive sensitivity curves and it looks like the settings of those are retained in the actual load information along with the sample program setups etc.

There's surprisingly few options for this kind of thing.
