One electronic drum, just MIDI out, no other features?

Hi.

Looking for a single drum with just MIDI out, to connect to any drum machine, sound interface or whatever. I can only find ones that are

1) extra drums for existing e-kits, like V-Drums
2) "Roland SPD"-style, with several smaller "zones" instead of one drum
3) practice pads with LCD, metronomes etc.

Is there any such product? Hopefully cheap (which I guess it should be, since it's one MIDI channel, monophonic).

Thanks.

Simple drum pads are really just triggers that produce some voltage when they are hit... They need to be connected to some kind of drum brain that will convert that signal to a midi command for turning on a specified note in an exterrnal synth or sampler.

Never heard of a pad that would have a "brain" like that built in... In most cases drummers need 5 pads or more, what would they plug 5 MIDI cables into...?

Yeah I know... The thing is, I would like to use an acoustic drum kit, but have the option of having a second snare drum only. Great having a "Linn-style" snare sound for a Prince song, for example...

Korg wave drum. Might be more than you're looking to spend, I dunno. But it can do what you're looking for, and a whole lot of other cool stuff.

I've never used one and I think they're discontinued. But it might be what you are after, check first, cos I don't know much about it

I know what you are saying - I am thinking of getting something like that, too... But I think once you get a single pad, you will want more sounds :-) Also, for live playing it's really better to have an integrated solution, easier to set up and more reliable. So I'd recommend a drum pad with built in sounds and several areas allowing various sounds to be triggered without re-programming during a gig. Like DrumCat (don't know if they still make them).

Roland PD8 pad?

i'm looking to do the same thing. does anyone know if you can use/mod the Roland PD 8 pad to do a similar thing..?

I want something simple, i don't need a octapad set-up and it must be playable with sticks..

It would be good if hitting it again before the end of the current sound just triggered a new version of the sound..

Oh and i want to use my laptop running Logic to provide the sounds - no stand-alone drum-brain.

Thanks for any help..

Looking for the same thing. Just a pad that has midi out so I can lay down a basic feel with sticks then build around the feel in the midi world.

Did you ever find such an item?

Absolutely. You can p/u a Roland PD-8 for like $35 used, and you'll get MIDI w/o having a MIDI interface.
