Click That Doesn't Beep

Okay, I've just been enlightened upon the dubious fact that drummers can't sync to music.

This mean that I need an in-ear click to use for the drummer.

I hate beeping!!!!

Is there something out there that ticks with volume control that can keep me sane?

Please help me, there's a window close by. There's a nice calm breeze blowing through it from the other side.

just import a kick sample or a drum loop. ive always found drummers work better to a drum loop rather than a click.

Ditto, I hate clicks that literally click.

Could always pick up a cheap junk old used drum machine (Alesis SR16?) and either use a single drum sound (side stick, cowbell) or a simple beat.

Peterson makes a click unit called the Body Beat that sends a physical pulse to the drummer; might be what you're looking for. I've never tried it so I can't vouch for its effectiveness.

Here's the link if you want to check it out:

I use a midi file triggering a drum soft synth. Pick whatever sound you want and go.

I use a Korg Beatlab, and it's a metronome! Better save the women and children first! It's a metronome! GASP! AND IT CLICKS!!

Hey, at least it doesn't beep. I've never heard of one that does, actually.

I don't like drum loops because they make you think about sticking to the pattern in the loop, whether you realize it or not. Limits creativity.

Shaker, baby...Shaker. Me love me some shaker in place of a "click"...Logic has some great loops of percussion instruments that are subtle enough to keep you sane...yet still help you to play to the timing fabric.

Weird.. I use a Beatlab, and I think it sounds more like a beep than a click. I can get annoying at times if it gets too loud in the cans, but I tend to turn it down so I can JUST hear it.. so if I'm on, it disappears (which doesn't happen often).

I use samples of a woodblock, tambourine and maracas. All dry, EQ'ed (to make sure my eardrums don't blow up from the transients), normalised and trimmed on the front.

Woodblock is for the main beats, maracas for the subdevisions, tambourine for cues.

I like to program a click that lies around what I/the drummer am/is going to play. That way I can turn down the volume dramatically, plus it makes for a nicer way to play "up against" the click instead of trying to be "on it".

I've got an ancient Win 98laptop that lives near my kit. It'll run the old Hammerhead virtual drum machine...I think the default sound <user3> (or is it <user4>?) is a cowbell that cuts through almost anything. Sometime I might also layer hihats or shakers with it to catch subdivisions.

The laptop also has a pretty solid headphone amp, and it'll play CDs, too.
