Red face e908 on toms, then what for the floor toms?

Hey guys out there.. I'm new here, and it seems like theres no similar threads.

I've got a real nice sounding Pearl Masters Premium drum kit, and that sound should be heard through the mics too. It's for live use.

Ive thought a few different things:

Having e908 on floor toms too
Having e906 on floor toms
Oh I forgot, it doesn't need to be sennheiser, but it's just the only thing I know about.

Maybe the e908's could be helped by a bassdrum mic?

Sorry for bad english, I'm danish!

For your interest:
Pearl Masters Premium MRP maple 8x7, 10x8, 12x8, 15x13, 16x16, 18x16, 24x18bd

Hi,

try an AKG D112 on floortoms. I've had good experiences with it.

Good luck!

The D112 and nothing else? It's just so huge.
I love Gavin Harrisons sound, that's what I'm going for!

Yes, the D112 is great on floor toms! I'm also digging the CAD M179 for about the same money, and it can do MUCH more than floor toms. Great all around mic.

For smaller tom diameters (13, 12, 10, 8) I'm using the sennheiser e504's (now called the e604, but same mic). I got 5 of them for $300 long ago, which is too good to pass up.

Usual floor tom mics are Senn 421's and Electro Voice RE20's

don't forget to check out the ATM25 or ATM250 from Audio-Technica, Shure Beta 52. I'd stick with one mic per drum to avoid phase issues.

I will +1 the following:
D112
MD421
RE20
M179

I like the e906 on floor tom but I don't think it has the balls that the other mics suggested have.

The e908 is just a clip-on condenser it actually won't do too bad all around the kit, minus kick drum.

for the floortom I would go with a 421 or a 441..they're both great.
Never tried the D112 (If I'm not wrong Tool's Danny Carey uses them for toms..)
I prefer dynamics over condensers for toms (I don't know why..they give that mojo..)
just my 0.02$,

Yes!
D112 is my go to floor tom mic. Especially since I don't like it on kick.
It sounds perfect without any additional EQ 95% of the time!

100% OT for a second

Hey Eric, nice Vonnegut quote. Here's another one I heard recently that made me laugh. Thought you might enjoy it.

"I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different."

I like the ATM-25 for floor tom

sometimes I like 414s on all the toms

and my favorite KV quote is:

I've been micing top and bottom heads, using 1 Y'd - bottom out of phase, cable into 1 pre of course. You can use different mics for top and bottom but I've been having god results using matching Sennheisers, either 900 series or 421's.
