Thoughts on 1980 stop sign Gretsch ?

Hi,
I am thinking about buying a 1980 gretsch set, with the "drop-G" stop-sign logo.
Do you know if the shells are as thin as those from the 70s ? I already played on a 14x24 70s gretsch kick that sounded fantastic, but I have never tried the 80 ones, and I live too far from the seller's place.
The seller says it's a 16x22 kick but I'm not sure what do you think from the pic ?
I play rock, I don't know if that kind of vintage kit is a good choice or if I'd rather choose a more recent one ....
Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!
Thanks.

I had one of those kits at my house for about a week (I did a guy a favor and picked it up locally for him and shipped it.. he bought it off my local craigslist). They're GREAT sounding drums.. was very hard for me to ship them off, I wanted to keep them.

Hard to say what works for you - but they're definitely good sounding drums.

Buy them if the price is reasonable

Ok, thank you guys for your comments.
It's a bit far from where I live but maybe it's worth driving for 6 hours ....
