Thread Starter | bogus price for re-wrapped Ludwigs?
A drummer friend I know recently bought a 3 piece Ludwig 24x18, 14x14, 16x16 kit in champagne sparkle wrap. When I saw it, I knew something didn't look right because he paid vintage price for what is most likely an 80's Rocker kit in disguise. I'm here just to check that my observations are correct. First, all the drums have blue/olive badges, but the shells are heavy and when looking inside the drum, you can see 9 or more plies and no reinforcement rings. I thought 70's Ludwigs were either 3 or 6 ply and always had reinforcement rings. Am I right? Second, while the wrap is very well done, it is too perfectly clean and unfaded. There are no scuffs or dings anywhere, which is very rare for a kit that should be 30+ years old. Finally, did Ludwig make a 24x18 kick in the 70's? I thought 26, 24 or 22 by either 14 or 16 were the only sizes made. So it looks like whoever sold him the kit had the intention of making it appear to be vintage so they could sell it for more, when in fact the kit was probably born in the 80's. The kick sounds good, but the toms are nothing special. Maybe this dude should be asking for some of his money back? (Don't worry, it ain't me!) |
