help identifying this drum / percussion sound

I'm trying to figure out what this sound is in the background behind the "Think" drumbreak by James Brown / Lyn Collins

zSHARE - what is this perc.aif

It has a marching band percussion quality to my ears, but I've been sifting through drum samples and libraries for purchase online for the past 5 days unable to pin down EXACTLY what instrument or type of drum sound that is

The whole groove is a sampled loop that's been sped up, processed and added to.
It hard to make out the specific sound, it could be replicated with a high pitched and dry snare sample.

for the record, this loop is from "The Goodmen" and I believe it is a Timbale - can anyone else confirm this?

A timbale is much more ringy.
It's just an added dry snare sample IMO.

its NOT a timbale.

The sample (Goodmens most famous track was 'Give it up') follows the Brazilian rhythm style of Batucada which is an ensemble of players giving that rich snare sound -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IECUGF-ZXo

Batucada's the main snare sound is created by many snares known as repinique, but also in conjunction with all the usual other brazilian/samba sounds: shakers, cuica, timba, caixa, surdo etc..
