Thread Starter | just scored a free supraphonic!
A few days ago I offered to buy a 70's Supraphonic (14x5) from a guitar player because he's moving out of the rehearsal room I was renting to him and probably won't be able to keep his drum collection (don't ask why he was collecting drums, long story!). He just said "you can have it" even after I offered him cash for it again. I thanked him several times, having always wanted one of these Luddie's for my own. This is my first Supraphonic although I've played them and acrolites before. During my last practice, I tweaked the tuning and easily copped the Bernard Purdie tight, snappy funk snare thang. Exactly what I was after, and not possible with my other snares. It also has that great, unmistakable sounding (very familiar) CrAcK that everyone has heard in every kind of music. I feel like I finally got what was a missing snare drum sound in my collection! I'm happy! ![]() It needs a new p-85 strainer but I know those aren't hard to find. |

Oh, hell yeah. My 1970 supra gives me my Pretty Boy Purdie *thwack* every time! Nice grab. Buy the guy a nice meal. And a beer. And the "Making of Steely Dan's Aja" DVD where they talk about Purdie setting up signs alongside his kit: "You gone done it now..." "...you done hired the Hitmaker!" If you love Purdie, grab the movie soundtrack of "Hair", he & Wilbur Bascomb tear it up on that disc. je |

I gotta check out "Hair" then. Sounds highly entertaining! Thanks! Hey Nut! How are you buddy? Is it difficult to get a Supraphonic in GearMany? I am willing to find one for you and ship it over there. Just let me know. Take advantage of the weak dollar!

Over here they are a bit higher prized, but stimm less than most other useable new drums. I still might come back on your offer one day.
