Thread Starter | drum quantizing question!1
hi, everyone, so i friend of mine sent me a track that he recorded with his band and he was telling me how amazed he was cause the recording came out awesome and the engineer, has no equipment at all, they record the drums with 2 sm 57 and gtrs with a pod line 6. So i started researching for that engineer profile to see what's up? at his myspace page, he explain a little about what he does, which i kinda understand with the gtrs but not with the drums. he emulates everything with software, that's kool i know that with guitar rig and amp farm you can do tons of stuff, but my question is: do anybody has any idea about the software or what type of tecnhique is he talking about to convert the drum files digital, emulate them and quantize them? cause I'm extremely amazed about his work. here is that guy's myspace: MySpace.com - RANDOM AWESOME! Recording Studio - BAY CITY, MI - 28 - Male - BAY CITY, Michigan - www.myspace.com/randomawesomerecording. thanks for ur time! |

I'd imagine that he's doing something like recording rough takes of the drum parts and then going back and reprogramming them with MIDI. A skilled programmer can make MIDI drums sound really realistic these days, and there are a ton of great sample libraries out there with some excellent drum sounds. The old-school guys are probably throwing up all over their computers though. |

There has gotta be a hundred different ways to record awesome drums these days without any mics at all. I use similar techniques in my studio however, everyone does things differently.

but if he only recorded it with 2 sm57's... how can he replace, for instance the toms separately? edit: I read on his myspace that it takes him a day per song to process the drums, so he probably cuts up everything manually... |
