How to get my ludwig speedking to tighten on my hoop

I can't get my speedking pedal to tighten to my hoop. I have a Vistalite kit from the 70's and still won't tighten to it. Can someone please give me some help? Also what is the best way to adjust the spring?

Ive use some rubber padding to get a tighter grip on my hoops before.
But honestly, I havent used Speed King pedals in many years.

I have seen guys put on several layers of duct tape at the spot on the hoop where the pedal grabs to make it thicker. If that doesn't do it, your wing nut may be stripped. You may need to bring it to a machine shop and have them drill it out to the next size.

As for adjusting the spring, this is related to your technique. Try it a several different tensions over a week or so and keep notes as to which settings feel best or give you the most speed, or trade off with power etc.

Modern hoops are a little thinner than the hoops these were designed for. I used to put a piece of felt around the hoop (not permanently) to tighten up the space between.
