Thread Starter | Electronic drum Module Inquiry?
It's been a while since I visited. How's it been going around here? Anyway -- I am trying to decide on an electronic drum scenario for my home studio. Would like to keep options as flexible as possible for future move into computer smapling. Right now I am consideing the Alesis USB pro kit. Along with a hardware module for the time being. Maybe the Alesis DM Pro. Anybody have expedrience with the dm pro? thanks, Woods |

Forget the module. Get a trigger to midi converter with some decent triggers (Pintech dual concertcast license the Roland technology and cost SIGNIFICANTLY less, and have seperate rim and head volume directly on the drum!). Use the trigger to midi converter and your laptop. If you get something like the Roland TMC or an older Roland module (like a TD-10 for example) you will have all the sensitivity and trigger adjustments available to you and an endless supply of samples. If you do go the TD-10 route, you have some of the td-20 series samples in the module and can switch to the midi settings to go to sounds from your laptop. |

Thread Starter | How about the Alesis USB Pro?
That's where I'm going eventually. The Alesis USB Pro. But it hasn't shipped yet. It comes with the Trigger I/O and a fairly decent set of pads and the surge cymbals. I wonder how it would compare to the set-uo you just mentioned? thanks, Woods |

Woods - not familiar with the unit. As long as it has decent sensitivity, cross trigger, etc. settings, you should be fine. Spend the money on a decent set of triggers. Not sure if you are an acoustic drummer also, but if you are, not having things that trigger reliably will just be really frustrating. That's why I like the pintech stuff with the volumes right on the drums, no menu diving for quick adjustments...

I <3 the Drumit FIve but understand it may well be out of your pricerange. I thought teh TD20/12 did not sample drums? If so those are som pretty dire samples.
