Saosin's drum set?...

Hello. I'm looking to buy a new drum kit to my studio. I mostly do rock and metal recordings. I also found sounding very interesting Saosin's drums on their last album (2006). Anybody knows which kit the've been using during the session? All i found, is that they were recorded at Hurley Studios, but i've not found anything about this studio in the internet.
YouTube - Saosin - You're Not Alone Video that's song from the album i like.
However, i will consider all opinions and variants about purchasing new kit

Tony.

The last CD was not recorded at Hurley... they are working there now on their new album.
Hurley

Maybe Beau will chime in and give you some details on the kit.

Alex used a Gretsch kit, which he also plays live.

There's a 20-30 minute making of DVD if you buy the cd which explains a lot and shows the drum set ups.

Things more important for getting a similar sound:

1.) Use the same samples they do.

2.) Use the same room they did.

3.) Use the same engineer.

4.) Use the same drummer.

Those things are generally more important than the drums themselves, but it's usually pretty interesting to know.

The Saosin drum sounds have so much sampling blended into them that the actual kit used is probably a relative non-issue.

That said, for rock/metal I'd go with a nice Birch kit; Tama Starclassics never disappoint.

You can't hear the samples in that? It's pretty much all samples... like a lot of music in the last 10 years.

hi. the kit was an old gretch kit. pretty standard sizes. probably birch. however, if you heard the raw tracks, you would not want to use that kit. it's all lordalge samples on the record. and a pretty lackluster job at that. i hear phasing between the triggers and original drums all over the place. that being said. i tracked the drums for this new record we are working on now. used a craviato custom kit. 13 x 10 inch rack tom. 16 x16 inch floor 20 x 20 inch kick. 14 x 6.5 inch metal craviato snare. used a few other snares, but mainly that one. i got fed up with records that had shit loads of samples. so i recorded the stuff myself and as long as things keep going my way, ill have no samples on this record.

peace,

beau

Beau..
I hope that works out.. I'd love to hear more records coming out that actually sound like bands playing instead of semi-human drum machines.
