Drummers! yet another Bleifuss alum snare.... PIMP !!

Here is one of the actual production drums, this guy is lime luminescent green, powder coat ( the pic does it no justice! )

with the new 'center cut' bearing edge.

It's aluminum and the finish is a Powder coat ( chopper shop down the street from Pauls place)

I can't really stop gushing about this drum... I own black beauty's, N&C, Brady, Solid, Pork Pie,Dunnett, and quite a few Major manufacturers snares.... This thing is so different than them all ( I love em all , don't get me wrong)

"Woody" " Sensitive"

"projecting"

this one is a 5.5x14, the original prototype was a 6.5 , and we recut the bearing edge.
It's sick. and the 5.5 is just as sick.

6x13's coming.

I'm going to arrange a couple of them to make the rounds in Cali, then across the US...
Toolskid has the same drum in the UK as I write this, and may be able to hook up the Euro guys if interested.
Price still being worked out for the overseas guys, but it should land in the 800'00 mark ( USA) which, if you guys buy boutique drums know is a very good price on a truly handmade custom drum....
plz don't hold me to that price- may be +or - a bit.

anyone interested, contact Paul Bleifuss the maker (and sweetest guy in the world) at
Paul@bleifussdrums.com

He'll difinitely hook up slutz if they mention me.... (helping the brother out! )
Here's the new "Limey" and then pics of the drum Toolskid has, then the builder Paul Bleifuss

its 2am - I've been working for 18hours again..BUT.. I've still got enough juice left to say:

this drum is possibly the best metal snare I have ever played..period.... (I have a similar collection to caj too btw + some years of drum sluttery behind me too ) Sonically, feel-wise, flexibilty and tuneability. AWESOME.

If you can check one out do, but BE WARNED...you will be parting with your money!!

I would gush some more, but fatigue has overidden that impulse

BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BYE BYE!

Wow, glad to see this post! I've been looking for a web resource on Bleifuss drums for a good long while now, glad to see that there is a web presence now. I'm sure the snare kicks ass, I've heard that these are some of the best drums around.

Although a freestyle use of the decimal point, I'm guessing he maybe meant 800 clams.

Had to let you all know I just got in a 13" Bleifuss snare and this thing is really special. The moment it went up on the stand, it just stood out. One of the best, most versatile metal snares I've ever played. It cuts like crazy, but not like some skinny, harsh skank. Sounds great down low or up top. Built like a tank, and very easy to tune. Will post some pics soon. Ahhhhhh.... it's the Sophia Loren of snare drums.

Which btw, must be first production 13" on the planet.... I think Paul told me your back east ? producer ?

beautiful drum, I'm trying to get 4 more to Toolskid to toss around.

He's got one there now, a 13, that is INSANE. a cream colored powdercoat with gold hardware... sounds way pimpy, but is actually very classic looking. I'd love to own it.

Paul says he's going to make my little girl a 12" candy apple pink 5x12- I'm shooting for a vic firth endorsement too!

Craig, yeah I'm based in NYC-- I'm a drummer first and foremost, but ended up building a studio for many reasons-- on the road playing a lot and then when I'm in town I'm in the studio. I've actually just been doing tracks tonight for a new album, and the Bleifuss once again came through on 2 tunes. One it was cranked pretty tight, and just sang, the other it was super loose and buzzy, and just sounded great-- perfect for the track and felt so good to play... will post pix very soon, sorry. This is a great studio drum becuase it is so versatile, easy to tune and very beautiful to look at.

BTW, your daughter is awesome. I just had a boy 5 weeks ago, and got a set of Spizz cymbals, and Roberto engraved his name and birthdate on them. Can't wait till he starts playing and drooling on them-- he's only doing the latter right now.

what could be better, a new child and a new instrument... actually, don't answer that, I know what some of you guys are thinking...!

It's German for "leaden foot" (leaden as in the metal). In Germany, people call reckless speeders "Bleifuss" drivers....

Great name for a drum manufacturer, if you ask me!

Cheers,

I'll call you in a couple days Craig. I've just been swamped here at the studio.

When is it that you will be in my neck of the woods?

Hope all is well.

Is it a cast shell? I've been playing a Tama Bell Brass but it's the thin version. Sounds great but I'd like a 5"x13" instead of a 4"x14". How would it compare to bell brass? I've noticed the bell brass can go quite low in tuning compared to most drums. I'm sure the aluminum would be quite warmer. I wish I could play one.

And ANOTHER beauty from Paul B. 13x5 Bleifuss

Here she is. I've been waiting to get this for some time- I've just been spending money on studio crap for the last year, but this drum really turned my head.

Bleifuss "aluminator" 6.5x13 all gold hardware, Nickel throw, and in a gorgeous cream poweder coat with just a hint of gold sparkle in it...

such a wonderful addition to the quiver, and beautiful to look at.

I'll have it in the studio next week-- pics and sonic report to follow!

(btw: prayers and good vibes to Paul... he's fighting the good fight right now...)

Oh, does that mean he is unwell?

I like the look of the red drum.
More reports on the sound would be great, I'm not that fussed about gold hardware etc....
I wont own a drum with a Nickel strainer either.
I had one blow up on me on an important session. The snare drum was sounding killer and we had to abandon using it. I'd only used it a couple of times previously.

I've heard that about the Nickel--

I'll try and post some clips next week---

I've been looking at an aluminum snare, notably the N&C cast alloy. Is the Bleifuss cast?

I am not sure if the Bleifuss is cast or not, but both drums are currently in my studio and while they both give off that undeniable aluminum resonance, they are also worlds apart in tone.

The N&C is pingier and starker sounding, with a bit more bottom. The Bleifuss has a very distinct and sharp attack sound that blends beautifully into its shell resonance. The Bleifuss is a cutter with body.

They are both great drums, maybe not the most versatile drums in the world, but when they work in a tune, it is magic.

sorry to report

Paul passed away wed night, after a prolonged battle with lung cancer-

Great friend, player, and craftsmen.

He'll be missed dearly.

Quite a few of Pauls drums in raw and finished configurations he'll leave behind, and we'll be sorting and selling them in the near future. Anyone interested, plz feel free to PM me.

they will include raw "aluminator" drum shells, and a few pick of the litter shell packs from keller, with amazing flame grains.

also, proprietary drum making gear that will for the time being, be put in storage.

thanks.
