micing an unported kick drum

I have a kick drum sounding really good with an unported reso head. I know it will be old school, but anyone have good luck with a particular mic or technique?

SM7 or EV n/d868 on the batter head looking down at the beaters from the top of the kick drum, 47fet on the front head, and if you need more snap, an SM91 inside with the cable routed through the airhole. That should do it for you.

I have a D6 permanently mounted in my kick drum with an XLR plate in the shell - I just plug into my kick drum and I can always have a solid front head.

Another trick for adding some attack is micing the batter side of the kick.
SM57 would probably work fine. Remember to check that Ø!

I have the Barcus Berry contact mics which I use for triggering. I tried recording them a few times, but Audio-wise they were really not very interesting.

I had really great luck with a 421 on the beater side, tons of punch but needs some bass help. Use something on the other side with some good bass or trigger a drum sound with some bottom end help. Love the punch of the 421 on the beater side...
Good luck
