Thread Starter | Roland SPDS Sounds
Just got a Roland spds sample Pad. I've loaded some of my own sounds just trough a microphone but is there a free online sound bank or something? I hate the ones it comes with

Best way for you to use the unit and input samples is to buy a sd card to load the samples on from a computer. You can get a usb multi-card reader for pretty cheap. This has by far been the easiest way for me to deal with managing samples with the SPDS (which I've had for like 4 years and still LOVE!!!) I've always kind of made all of my own samples, but you can search around on your computer (for instance if you've got garageband) and take some of the samples from there. Hope this helps... Kyle

Hi bloodsuga and nice reply rebuskyle. I totally agree with what rebuskyle said. Just to add that it is easy to sample your own sounds in as well. If you've got a synth or drum machine that you like the sounds of you can switch the switch on the back from mic to line and record straight in. In this way you can use the on board memory (there isn't much of that though). Should be able to load in a few of your own one shot samples in there. Peace, cortisol |

2nd that BEWARE: Spds can only support up to 512MB SD cards MAXIMUM So you will have to look around a bit !! I loaded some Steven Slate Drum samples into the SPDS (bought it yesterday) The drum sound is just ridiculously good :D The recording input is a nice feature but I would recommend recording the samples in your studio with a good mic/pre-amp etc... and then putting them on the SPD-S card Lots of luck !! |

Hey guys, how is your SPD-S holding up? I'm considering getting one soon. Wonder if Roland will come out with a newer model soon? |

Mine is still rocking steady! I haven't been using it quite as much as I used to, but when I do it's solid! My only complaint is that you can't import loops from the card. You can store loops on the card, but if you want to have patches loop you have to program it in the actual unit.....

Hey everyone, I finally got one of these things! Dig it! Ordered a 2gb compact flash today and was wondering about the firmware update for it. It says ver 1.20 is available but not for Mac OSX. Any thoughts? Am I going to be able to use that cf card? IT was on of the SansDisk models that was listed. Thanks, Tom |

The 1.20 update addresses precisely this issue ![]() SPD-S System updater Version 1... :: [VER.1.20] Improvements: Expands the SPD-S's CompactFlash card compatibility to be able to use up to a 4 GB card. |

"Important: You can use 1 GB, 2 GB, and 4 GB CompactFlash cards, however, the maximum amount of memory available on the card will ONLY be 512 MB." doesn't work on OSX either?

| Sample will not stop
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum so forgive me for replying and not starting a new thread (how do you do that?) I have imported a sound file into my spds and assigned it to a new patch. The sound plays but does not stop when I hit the pad again.Does anyone know how I make it do this? |

Uploading new samples to the unit via a card reader strips loop points. This is probably the only real downside to this unit and has been a thorn in my side ever since I've owned it. The new version spd-30 can do this, but it's also a good bit more expensive.....(and larger).

| How to delete unwanted files on Roland SPD S
Greetins, as I ated above, I musty bought thel unit and created 2 sample sounds and I attempted to make my third and got a memory full on the display. Can someone kindly walk me thru the "delete wave" process? The manual doesn't give a step by step instructiions. And my other issue is I have an android phone where I keep all my sound effects and music that I want to copy to my SPDS. I copied the cD that came with my SPDS. How would I play the. PSD files that are on there to check out those samples? Thanks |

I love mine, it is great, SPDS allows you to record CD-quality samples and it offers you the ability to play them back instantly and the fact that it is equipped with three edge triggers and six pads makes this process so much simpler and allows endless creative possibilities.

Hey Fellow SPD-S users, I have a problem. I use both the SPD-S and SPD-20 together (both awesome). I usually run my 20 through the input of the S, and sample from the 20's databank, and have the input Mix set on. then I sample and jam from there, no problems for years. Now I'm getting this weird, loud frequency coming through the input every time. its not the cords or the SPD-20 because they work fine or their own. if i set Input Mix off, the frequency stops, although starts up again when I try and sample anything. any ideas on what I should do? -Thanks, Harley |
