Mapex Venus series drum set Help

Hi,
I am new to the drum world and wondering if this is a good drum set and also a decent price? He is taking $600 for everything...
Thanks so much for your input-

Mapex Venus series set with a Pearl snare, and all the cymbals and stands. The hi-hat and one other stand are Mapex, a couple of the crash stands are Pearl and a couple are PDP, and they are all very sturdy and in great shape
With the set I'm including (with all the stands and hardware):
* Stool
* Bass Drum
* 3 Toms
* Pearl snare
* Sabian B8 13"/33cm Hi-hat
* Sabian AAX 16"/41cm Stage Crash
* Sabian AAX 12"/30 Splash
* Sabian B8 Pro 20"/38cm Medium Ride
* Sabian B8 15"/38cm Crash
Extras include:

* New and unused Sabian AAX 12"/30cm Splash
* Slightly used Zildjian Custom 18"/45cm China Cymbal
* New and unused snare head
* New and unused heads and hoops for all three toms
* Pedal for playing double bass and new/unused pedal head
* Practice cover for quiet snare practice
* Two "Claws" for mounting cow bell, etc.
* Lots of sticks and mallets
* Two sets of brush sticks
* Extra hardware for bass drum and snare/toms

Mapex Venus

The Mapex Venus series is a good, solid beginner quality set. You are paying for the accessories in this configuration. These kits could be had new for under $500. It is a decent array of cymbals. All in all it should serve you well...but this is not a smoking price. I would offer $500...

Heck, you could get a Gretsch Catalina club for less and it will SMOKE this kit. That would be my recommendation in this price range...I know a lot of pros that play the Catalina (myself included...I use it for gigs when I dont feel like lugging my GMS)...cant say the same about the Mapex Venus.

Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Mod 4-Piece Shell Pack and more Acoustic Drum Sets at GuitarCenter.com.

Cheers
