The Mapex Venus series is a good, solid beginner quality set. You are paying for the accessories in this configuration. These kits could be had new for under $500. It is a decent array of cymbals. All in all it should serve you well...but this is not a smoking price. I would offer $500... Heck, you could get a Gretsch Catalina club for less and it will SMOKE this kit. That would be my recommendation in this price range...I know a lot of pros that play the Catalina (myself included...I use it for gigs when I dont feel like lugging my GMS)...cant say the same about the Mapex Venus. Gretsch Drums Catalina Club Mod 4-Piece Shell Pack and more Acoustic Drum Sets at GuitarCenter.com. Cheers
