| New " old school " kits ? Anyone have some ideas for any New " old school " kits ? Ive been checking out some old luds and slingerlands off of craigslist and they were not in great shape . Is there a company building "close" to similar quality as the old luds ? Thanks G |

| LOVE the Cataline Club line....nice tone and old school looks. Some of those wraps are very Ringo...

| i have a set of dw "classics" which are made with mahogany shells and butter edges. Very old school feel and sound but made in 2007. They're not cheap, but great quality. I have an 60's ludwig kit that I love and the DW is right there with it. |

| Ludwig has in production now a "re-issue" kit that has the thin multi-wood shells of the past. |

| The whole "reissue" drum thing has me a bit crazy. The only reason that it makes sense for Fender and Gibson and the various guitar companies to offer a "reissue" model is that the originals are so outrageously priced. For example, you could buy a nice 59 Les Paul from a vintage dealer and probably pay $200K to maybe even $750K. Or you could get a reissue VOS that lists for something like $5K. Still a bit high, but oh well. The drum market is totally different. Even the top notch stuff like the really clean, vintage Gretsch Roundbade or Ludwig 3plys are still cheaper than a new kit. Seriously, isn't that reissue 3ply kit from Luddy in the $7K range? Are they kidding? Go to the most expensive vintage drum shop you can find and get the real deal for less than half that price. Get lucky and find a nice kit on cl or ebay for under a grand. m
