im curious as well... dont really care about the comparison... just the roland.

i want to use it to midi trigger MPCs/ASR-10 especially... as much live feel as i can get in the studio. how's the velocity sensitivity ... how's the midi implementation? i understand that i can assign each pad to individual midi chans to trigger/sequence multiple hits/tracks at once?

I use the roland playing live - the alesis won't loop as far as i know, also no internal sounds - (jeez how they date) . with the roland i can toggle loops in my sampler on and off with one pad.
