Alesis USB Pro Kit

Hi all, Im so sick of composing lifeless drum tracks with with a m-audio keyboard and the piano roll view. I cant seem to get what im hearing in my head to come through on the midi tracks.

Ive decided to take the plunge and buy an ekit, im a guitarist so I dont need a roland td20 nor can I afford one. What I am looking at is this new product by Alesis, I will be using it with Sonar on my DAW with Addictive drums as my vst.

Is this kit any good? Anyone tried it or have any input about it.

Whats the hat controller like, is it just opened and closed or is there control. I think you can cymbal choke etc?

The pads are loud and they feel horrible. They are very reminicent of the old Remo tunable practice pads which I loathed. I don't know if Alesis has updated the triggering at all from the DM5 which was total CRAP.

I've owned Pintech kits, Roland kits and the Alesis DM5 Pro kit. I actually like the pads on the DM5 kit, which are like the ones pictured. The Roland and Pintechs are very responsive, but for me it was almost too much response--but thats just me. I would head out to your nearest big music chain and try out the kits they have to see what you like.....

The trouble is that I live in New Zealand and none of the music shops in my city stock many edrums. So I normally go off as many opinions as I can, but after googling and youtubing for hours I cant seem to find much info about this kit, I thought the market would be flooded with them as theyre so cheap compared to the rolands

Alesis USB Pro kits

I bought mine January 6,and,had to wait 4 weeks to get them,so,they won`t show up on ebay for a while,I`m thinking. As to the kit itself, the triggers are tough to tweak,(my first foray into e drums),but I`m getting there.8 triggers in front of you,(Heads/Rims)Dual trigger ride,3 with choke, single trigger ride,(2 with choke),Hi hat pedal does`nt do CC,but,I`m still figuring it out. Comes w/BFD lite,ho hum,Limited, but good sounds,($400. for the real version). Some decent vst plugins out there,free/shareware,etc. ...Mace...Best of luck

Not to be rude but people might not look further after hearing such things so you should probably figure it out before posting completely erroneous information. The hi-hat pedal sends continuous control messages and this is stated by Alesis and many other sources. USB Pro Drum Kit Professional USB Drumset

how is this kit when actually playing/recording with your tracks in your daw? Can the trigger i/o hang? I heard some guys talking about using the dm5 for a make shift direct monitor and the trigger i/o to get around the latency. How has it worked for you?

I'm like the poster above, the piano roll is getting old.
