Mixing overheads...

Ok...I mixed a new tune and it's not bad but I'd like some more oomph outta my tom rolls.

The scenario...tracked in the Recorderman Technique with an added snare mic. I like the cymbals/HH better when I roll off around 4db from about 40hz up to about 300hz.

My thoughts to get the oomph back are to copy/paste the 2 OH's to 2 new tracks, boost the bottom, cut the hi, compress the snot outta them and then bring them up in the mix till they sit right.

Can you think of any reason why NOT to do this? Like something that'll come back and bite me in the arse later or something that'll limit me later? Got a better idea to get there?

If ya want to hear what I'm talkin about, it's the first song "Stuff" in my myspace page.

Many thanks....
Kel

Not bad. Give it a try! i don't see/hear any reason not to try it, just don't boost the lows or you'll be in a sea of mud..

Is that tom we hear most of the time an 8"? Cause it`s tuned like one...

I believe that what you want isn`t more bass. You want larger drums, in a larger room, with a larger drummer.

Probably something like this song
YouTube - tool - right in two...

Video is crappy tho.
