Thread Starter | WHY IS IT?????
That every freakin time someone walks into my jam room and sees my drums, they just assume it's OK to jump on and start bangin away? I mean, c'mon. Do I go to there house and just grab their guitar and start playing? Do I help myself to the food and beer in their fridge? (ok, well maybe that wasn't a good example ) I've got 5 broken sticks, a dented capsule on one of my tom mics (still works tho) and a broken head on one of my snares. Grrrrrrrr....... thanks for letting me whine...

I was once guilty of such behaviour, until a drummer buddy told me in no uncertain terms that I was being a major jerk. Now that I have a set of drums of my own in the studio (not that I actually play them... I just hit them on the beat when I'm lucky), I have suffered the same indignity. So at least there is some justice in the world. Truth is that an empty drum kit just looks like FUN.

People do this with guitars too...just grab 'em...I have a friend with a '58 strat...he was recording a band and the drummer would always grab that guitar and wank away on it. I had a friend in high school who put my first decent guitar into a ceiling fan 2 days after I bought it.... .....

I never mind when someone jumps on my drums unless it is because I am craving the quiet at that moment. Lots of times little kids will see them and run over to play them, and the parents will be trying to stop them. I say "don't worry, what is he going to do? Hit it really hard with a stick?" I can not recall the last time anybody broke a head on me or even put a ding in one. I change heads pretty often for recordings any way, and as far as sticks go, nobody chews them up as fast as I do with all the shanking and rimshots etc. I did have one student a long time ago who would somehow regularly break my (leather!) foot pedal strap. Once those nylon straps came out, even he was cleared to bang away. guitars OK, I can see it. And nobody touches my Stradivarius!
